Re: FVM MAGAZINE - FEBRUARY 2019

Don't worry folks - sense and normality and great back coverness will resume after the AGM advert is no longer needed :D

Re: Asus monitors

Hi Roy, I'm glad you're making progress! :D I have a similar setup here, HDMI from the laptop (or whatever else I might want) and, I think, a VGA style output from the editing machine. I'm not sure VGA is the correct term - it could be DVI-D but no doubt Tim or Tom etc will be able to provide more i...

Re: Asus monitors

Hi Roy, Could you give more details about the way you are viewing/plugging in your editor and Blu-Ray player? Are you using separate inputs for your editing system and the player, or are they both part of the same system? Or are you unplugging the editor and plugging in the Blu-Ray when needed? The ...

Re: Filming Children

Yikes - what a minefield! You're right Tim, I don't want to be consulting lawyers or creating so much work for myself that I don't have any time or money left to make the film! I can see all sides to the issue, but common sense must prevail in the end. My (current) solution would be to film ...

Re: Filming Children

Hi Tim, can of worms indeed and thanks for your thoughts! I was thinking about the 'private land' issue, but it was pointed out to me by an ex-teacher that children could be seen to be being enticed onto the land, as opposed to wandering on uninvited as might be the case with CCTV footage of visitor...

Filming Children

Hi to everyone on the forum :D Sorry I couldn't make it down to BIAFF this year, unfortunately family health issues are taking priority. Had I made it down, I would've liked to have discussed the following with the knowledgeable filmmakers of the IAC and beyond: As part of an ongoing documentary I w...

Re: FVM MAGAZINE - DECEMBER 2014

For God's sake, here we go again... Someone did once promise to do something about changing the back cover, but it never happened, did it? Promises are easy, aren't they? Unfortunately, so is sitting behind a keyboard moaning about issues that have been dealt with a long time ago. If you had taken t...

Re: Hard disk drive failure

Not a single one, yet... *touches wood* I have some ancient 80GB drives that I regularly use, but my oldest drive is actually a Samsung fitted to my desktop PC, which I use for all my film and music work as the data drive (leaving the system drive 'clean'). The PC is now 6.5 years old, but the...

Re: Data protection Act

Unfortunately I could not attend the last Council meeting due to family issues, so I'm not able to shed any light on progress that has been made on the GDPR matter. I do believe however that something is to be presented in the next FVM regarding GDPR although I suspect it might fall short of 'advice...

Re: Semi Pro Festivals

Michael, I'm so pleased you had made selection of what is a thoroughly fantastic film festival :D Obviously I don't have the experience or expertise that shows so brilliantly through your cinematography, but despite the modicum of success I have achieved through BIAFF and the amateur / non-commercia...

Re: Sony vegas and .mp4

Hi Peter, I have both Movie Studio 11 and 12 installed on my editing PC, if you want I can run v11 and find out exactly what buttons you need to press :-)

Re: Sony vegas and .mp4

That's one of the aspects of the Vegas editors I've noticed - the ability to perfectly and transparently 'smart render' from one frame rate to another. I use the somewhat ageing Lumix GH3 cameras, and their slow motion recording is only done at 24fps. Pop the footage on the timeline and ask Movie St...

Re: Sony vegas and .mp4

Hi Peter - good luck with this! It very much depends on your project settings at the outset and how you import your footage; let me tell you what I do to transfer my old 4:3 footage into mp4 using Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 12 (the settings between v11 and v12 are more or less the same I believe). ...
