UNICA

How does UNICA work, as far as UK films being shown? Are some of the best UK films from BIAFF selected or can any filmaker enter a film into the UNICA Festival. I suppose we would want the very best UK amateur films to be selected and also have the filmakers say something about the films put in on b...

Re: The shorcomings of a film

[Thanks for the positive and helpful comments. I started the thread as a means of discussing style rather than content That's funny I thought I started the thread! It takes quite a bit of confidence to show a film to others even more so to enter it into competitions. Many people want to produce som...

Re: Virtual Video Group IAC Membership Application

That is one of the problems, film making and showing films at film clubs ceases to be fun and it becomes pseudo work. This is a trap many sorts of clubs fall into, they are no longer pleasureable they just turn into another chore. With me it is making a film out of an idea which is the fun bit. Or j...

Re: Virtual Video Group IAC Membership Application

Not as easy as I thought then!
I only uses music from the YouTube Music Library, that solves the YouTube problem.
Well done with the Virtual Surrey Boarders Comp, I will try and put a film in if you do it again. Did you arrange and chair the Zoom Tim?

Re: Suggested One Minute films

[One of the side effects of asking for comments from the floor is - you receive comments from the floor! Unfortunately there are a few who like to show off their "knowledge" of film making by seeking out as many faults as they can and concentrating on those. There are also those who love ...

Re: Virtual Video Group IAC Membership Application

Even with the best will in the world it is going to take two or theree editions before FVM goes online (and we all know there are many implications with this). Firstly "Is FVM going online? Secondly: I did not know about Virtual Video Clubs, this is a whole new area for me to explore. Thirdly:...

Re: The shorcomings of a film

I think both the clips Ned has put up are of the particular genre Tim mentioned. They are of value as they are, and they could be used as a small part of a long film. Home Movie, or Selfie genre sections are often used in feature length films, but human attension span is limited and too much of anyt...

Re: Suggested One Minute films

We had a one minute film challenge at Bournmouth Movie Makers last week, there were 10 of us there and about 5 films, one of the nice things about it was there was plenty of time for conversation, getting to know each other more. There was one person there who I had seen at another film club for ove...

Re: Suggested One Minute films

On the subject of One Minute Films: I feel this is a sometimes overlooked format, and yet it is also a format which could do well at this years BIAFF. It seems harder to compete against a long complex film, when a One Minute film can be one simple idea made with just a few shots, Thinking especially...

The shorcomings of a film

The maker of a film often knows what's wrong with it. Sometimes a judge may suggest a re-edit, and sometimes that may be possible if the film maker has a mind to do so. But, what-if, the film-maker does not have a mind to modify the film? Should they go away and hide under a stone and file the film ...

Filming a Play

Film Clubs are often asked to film events for local groups. We were approached to film a play which would have about 7 natural stages in a wood, with processions between stages. The director did not want the camera people to be intrusive. The audience walked around with the actors wearing headphones...

Re: How do you "sell" a film festival?

When I wrote about "if you can't sell the sausage, sell the sizzle" I really meant that I want to know in this case: what is the "sizzle"? But you are advising on how to make a better "sausage" :D Because there isn't much sizzle? It's basically aimed at IAC film makers...
