Re: BIAFF 2022
This whole matter just has to be addressed with a sense of proportion. Of course you can die of Covid, as you can of many other ailments, and Covid, is spread incredibly easily. As Richard says, risks have to be assessed, but I do believe that the risks with Covid are fairly remote and decreasing as...

Re: BIAFF 2022
I'd completely forgotten that I did book a hotel for BIAFF and I've just found the confirmation. I'm at the Novotel for the two nights in a standard room with "a double bed with convertible sofa", whatever that might entail. So there is room for a pretty local girl if I could find one, alt...

Re: DVD and Blu-ray discs
Yes but Brian, were not those projections from hard drives? Most cinemas are digital now and I'm afraid that all our discs might have to be transferred to drives in the not so distant future.

Re: The shorcomings of a film
Both Ned and Tim have been kind enough to refer to the way that interviewees are featured in many of my films and I will attempt to describe the methods employed in order to get what I want. Firstly, I deplore the scenario of an 'interviewer' sitting in shot and asking questions of the subject. This...

Re: DVD and Blu-ray discs
Well, I think that this matter has been well and truly debated, as usual, by the half dozen sensible users of this forum. With the last few contributions digested it seems that streaming is the way things are going, notwithstanding the interruptions that Ken complains about and which drive my dear w...

Re: DVD and Blu-ray discs
Not sinister Jameela as much as irritating. The industry as a whole favours files now, overwhelmingly, purely as a matter of convenience, I think that your reference to 'sinister' is a bit dramatic, rather on the lines of 'anti vax'.

Re: The shorcomings of a film
What an interesting and relevant thread this is! There are those who endlessly re edit and others who never do. I'm very much in the latter category, preferring to move on and perhaps do better next time. Mind you, I show rough cuts to selected people to gain an insight of how it looks to fresh eyes...

Re: DVD and Blu-ray discs
Never have I felt more in agreement with a post than I am with this one from Howard. Both his and mine should be emblazoned all over the next issue of the magazine! I simply cannot understand, nor come to terms with, the demise of discs. I think that the catalyst was Apple's disgraceful decision to ...

Re: 3D VR
Tim, thanks, I did sort of realise what it was but I still dread it. I don't want to be surrounded, I want to look at a big screen and I can get immersed in that, whilst enjoying fantastic (?) pictures. Film is very largely a visual art, pictures enhanced and supplemented by audio. For action in the...

Re: 3D VR
Oh dear, just when I thought that 3D had disappeared for ever you youngsters are at it again! I'm sure that things won't stand still and eventually we will all be having our entertainment brought to us in the round as it were, but I do like a lovely flat picture on a good screen. The audio can be as...

Missed it darnit! Any chance of being able to access both Lockdown Lullaby and Tim's film, that someone mentions?

Re: How do you "sell" a film festival?
Regarding the doubt thrown on my statement that many festivals get more than 2000 entries, I can assure you that when I get a 'rejection' E Mail (very often I'm sorry to say) the message goes something like this "Thank you for sending us your film which unfortunately we are not able to include ...

Re: How do you "sell" a film festival?
John, Tim is not joking about the 4000 entries that many of the FilmFreeway listed festivals get. It's always over 2000, that would be quite a task for poor old Newman to deal with! Of course, the festivals are delighted, the average entry fees range from £10 to £50, most nearer the 50.

Re: How do you "sell" a film festival?
Ned, why a separate student section? They are film makers, the same as us, it's just that they hope to be paid film makers eventually. They have no particular advantages, the kit access is meaningless nowadays, and they are a good deal less experienced than us. Tim, you are right, I wouldn't cross t...
