Re: New laptops-no firewire- how to transfer HDV footage?

I'm surprised you think you had violence in response to your Mac declaration! I thought it was informed discussion!

Q. How do you spot a Mac user at a dinner party?

A. No need to worry, they'll always make themselves known. :-D

Re: New laptops-no firewire- how to transfer HDV footage?

My MacBook has 2 firewire inputs and at least 2 USB as well as a card slot. Macs of all types are the computer of choice for editors in my humble opinion. Technically speaking, they're not the computer of choice for anyone, having less than 5% market share :-) Sorry, I couldn't resist. :-) in our c...

Re: Green Screen on location?

I would be very wary of using the train in reverse trick. Without getting too technical , the acceleration graph (if you can imagine it) of a train stopping suddenly, is very different to a train starting off, and I would expect it to be very noticeable to a viewer and distract and spoil the effect....

Re: Green Screen on location?

Have you considered not using the green screen, as it adds tons of complexity, and trying the old split screen trick where the train and the person are filmed at different times, and merged with a split screen. it's a very simple effect, and very effective too... http://www.coulsonmedia.co.uk/DanRob...

Re: Window 8

I'm afraid that isn't a windows 8 feature... If you go into your local PC world or comet, you'll see a variety of touchscreen computers, even laptops have it too, so that particular feature is availabe on the highstreet now!

I thought DV was more like 13GB an hour?

uncompressed SD is more like 100GB an hour, but no-one would ever use that in practice!! :-)

Re: Mini DV tape - the era's end?

That's fantastic Leif!

It looks like it's around £300 UKP, which is quite a lot, but for an otherwise perfect camera, it's well worth considering!

thanks again, I feel quite happy now! :-)

You're absolutely right Colonel. Maybe I'm thinking back to Premiere 6 days or something, but I'm sure I've seen it there in the past!

Re: volume adjustment in Adobe premiere pro 2

it's an option on the far left of the timeline track that you're working on, I think, near where you can mute or hide a track..

Re: Mini DV tape - the era's end?

I kinda surprised at your thoughts Dave. I can certainly understand them, but what a good job that throughout history, lots of people have thought the opposite of you! :-) Orpington Video and Filmmakers received a substantial grant from the Awards for All organisation a couple of years ago, specific...

Re: Mini DV tape - the era's end?

Why archive back to tape at all? It's relatively extremely slow... Hard disks are so cheap nowadays, I would imagine it would be a lot easier to buy 3 separate archive HDDs, and have 3 separate independent backups on disk... I've always been a strong advocate of tape cameras, but tonight, I have ano...

Re: Sony's camcorder with a built-in projector

I'm surprised at everyone's negativity. To me, this is a pretty innovative feature, not seen before, and I'm already prepared for it not to be as good at projecting as a dedicated projector and a Dolby Surround sound amplifier. However, in a dark room, left on a coffee table, and a couple of inexpen...

Re: How might BIAFF entries be judged?

At the risk of being negative, I don't believe there is a way to "do judging" correctly. At the end of the day, it's opinion not fact, and one person might like a film and another person might hate it. Unfortunatley that's always going to happen as long as you are forced to use mere humans...
