Re: Film & Video Maker Magazine
Following on from your question about using actors from "Star Now" and other such agencies, you may discover a piece about Surrey Border Movie Makers' "BAFTA"s in your first issue. What you won't see is the ensuing discussion which is much more interesting - that is whether it is...

Great stuff, Martin. I wish you every success in what is probably a very tough task.

Re: BIAFF 2022
I agree, he's clearly intelligent and the film means something. Perhaps it's a film to be absorbed rather than watched. Having an idea about what inspires it and what it contains definitely helps in my understanding of it (and increases my desire to watch again). However, if I need to have something...

Re: BIAFF 2022
Martin, how can it be the "stand out film" for you if you don't understand what's going on? Nobody ever fully understood the end of Kubrick's 2001 A Space Odyssey. Yet decades on those scenes linger in our collective memories. Good answer to Michael's question. Personally I couldn't draw ...

Re: BIAFF 2022
Blimey it's quiet here. I can't imagine your post, Michael, has stunned everyone. Normally, post-BIAFF, the forum comes alive but apart from a few comments about how little we understand about some films and the shameful lack of Howard's films being shown, there's been very little. Do we assume ever...

Brilliantly put, Michael. I, too, would appreciate any light someone can shed upon the narrative for this film (Face the Music).Michael Slowe wrote: ↑Thu Apr 28, 2022 8:48 pm The poor man in the rowing boat seemed as lost and alone as I was viewing this film

Re: BIAFF 2022
"Living With Heartache" [...] However, the mere representation of feelings should not be the only criterion when assessing a film even if it's about something terrible. Bingo, Willy! I was searching for words to describe why I didn't particularly rate this film, but, as is often the case,...

Re: BIAFF 2022
Willy, many thanks for your (Werner's) explanation of Thirst. It makes perfect sense. The post apocalyptic world is described in the title and the bestial world is portrayed well and understood. The idea that the women trade water for sex is, presumably, as I had thought for the purpose of procreati...

Re: BIAFF 2022
Yes, Tom. That's pretty much all I could make out from it. The only thing I would add was the sex was clearly forced on the men by the women and they didn't seem to be deriving any pleasure from it (the heavy breathing appeared to be because they were putting effort into it rather than enjoying it) ...

Re: BIAFF 2022
also the occasional muttering from the back “can you explain to me what that was all about?” So, let the explanations begin! Tom, you seemd to be writing lts in the chat which we weren't always able to see (no opportunity to scroll back). From what could see it was all very complimentary and encour...

Re: How best to run festivals in the electronic age?
I think communication with entrants, including updates on delays in judging etc, is best done by email (as now), Different strokes... From my point of view whilst I agree important stuff (like confirmation of entry, results and significant announcements such as a major change to what had previously...

Re: How best to run festivals in the electronic age?
Perhaps regular updates here during those final weeks to set expectations? I'm not sure "here" is the best place as so very few people visit. However, I do think you're right and one central definitive place (presumably a page on the BIAFF website) should be the official place for news on...

Re: BIAFF Results 2022
Yes - Google is my friend , and looking for film competitions I found BIAFF. The fact that every film got feedback was very appealing. Thanks for the info, Roger. i know some of the IAC Council read posts here so they will get to know. You may not be aware that the IAC also run monthly online Open ...

Re: BIAFF Results 2022
May I echo John's welcome. It sounds as if this is the first time you've entered BIAFF. May I ask how you discovered it? It is a shame if you can't make it to Birmingham, especially as "A Moving Experience" is being screened on the Sunday. If you've never seen your film on a big screen in ...
