Re: Jameela
There is a fundamental problem with other people judging our Art, as discussed above, but how can the current situation be changed without some sort of transition?

Re: Jameela
Perhaps we are going round in a spiral rather than a circle, progressively getting closer to the centre of what we can agree needs to change. If there are two films of similar message, but one is well crafted while the other is: "rambling, out of focus, wobbly, virtually inaudible, incoherent a...

Re: Jameela
Regarding Poets, Artists and Philosophers, to quote from a previous post I made on the thread about my reform article in the the FVM magazine... If a new filmmaker makes a film to change people's thinking, then enters it in a film festival, but that "festival" is really only a competition,...

Re: Jameela
A story or a film has both its message and its presentation. We may call it the moral of the story and how well it engages us, but whatever we name them, there are two equally important but different aspects... If a story or a film does not leave us with some kind of thought or inspiration, then it ...

Re: Jameela
I think the only person who can judge a work of art, is the Artist who created it! ...All else is just an opinion.

Re: Jameela
Dear Michael, Yes there are many awards in the commercial film and literature world, and it must be great being recognised, but 'commercial' means done for money, done for profit. ...It is exactly the same as a manufacturer of washing machines seeking an award to help boost their sales! What we do i...

Re: Jameela
Sorry Tim, but I can't compromise on the word 'hobby'. To an outsider 'hobby' and 'vocation' may look the same, both can involve considerable time and expense, but the crucial difference is that of intention. A hobby is optional, a vocation is the purpose of one's life. If we write, or make films sp...

Re: Jameela
Dear Dave, You know the committee members better than I do, I only see the effects! But it is a very sad situation. I attended the last two AGM and they were short and farcical - no real debate or collective directions set, only rubber stamping the existing committee members who were up for election...

Re: Jameela
Dear Ned thank you for your supportive comments. Sorry for the slow reply, I seldom look at this forum now. It is indeed with great sadness that I feel I have to leave, but I have been put into an untenable situation regarding my calls for reform. I just wanted to show an alternative brighter possib...

Re: FILM & VIDEO MAKER MAGAZINE
I also agree with Tim, pictures are a valuable asset, and it is wasting them by reproducing the submitted images too small. ...In the upcoming edition of the magazine, I had 11 good high resolution pictures sent to me just for the Northern News page, but with great sadness I had to choose just 4 -- ...

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019
Exactly as you say Ned, "...what are the benefits of membership? Why should a young person with a mortgage; family; student debt, but a love of film making join the IAC?" ...Realising that I come from a different perspective and find the IAC as it is, wholly inadequate, I have written my a...

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019
Dear Ned, I applaud your radical thinking, but I disagree that "the most important asset of the IAC is BIAFF." ...Surely the most important asset is the membership itself, of which only a fraction ever attend BIAFF, but every member receives a copy of the FVM magazine! So BIAFF would be be...

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019
To say serious things, how can this be understood from a description using the word "hobby"? It is about initial perceptions. Furthermore... If a new filmmaker makes a film to change people's thinking, then enters it in a film festival, but that "festival" is really only a compet...

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019
I do think the word "hobby" is a problem! You need to see it how younger people will see it... Old folks doing their hobby! It trivialises us, so why would they wish to even consider joining us? They have a life to live in a world that they are inheriting that is not exactly in good condit...
