Re: BIAFF 2012 RESULTS

7-8 years ago I started to make dramatized documentaries And this, indeed, highlights the difficulty in splitting awards into "fiction" and "non-fiction". I think you're probably correct about the style having fallen out of favour in recent years. We'll occasionally see what I l...

Re: No sound on Encore DVD

That's good news. Pete. Whilst it's a good idea to keep at least 20% free on any hard disk for the smooth running of a PC, I don't think this can be put down to any lack of understanding on your part. Any well written application should ideally check there is enough space for any given operation and...

Re: BIAFF 2012 RESULTS

May I ask you to see the following film? It's a documentary. Length about 4 minutes. It's educational and powerful and it has lots of other qualities : http://www.midwayfilm.com I would give it a diamond award. I would only make it even a bit shorter. Wouldn't you give it an award though it is not ...

Re: No sound on Encore DVD

I'm not familiar with Premiere/Encore, only Vegas/DVD Architect, but is it possible that when you've exported to Encore, you've unticked a box (or failed to tick a box) to export the audio stream as well as the video stream? Within Premiere, this may well be saved along with the project settings, wh...

Re: BIAFF 2012 RESULTS

I'd assumed that in the context of Willy's post (awards at BIAFF) he was asking te question whether documentaries were not appreciated by judges as seemed to be reflected in the results, rather than generally. I have little doubt that all of us, as film makers, apprciate a good documentary and that ...

Re: BIAFF 2012 RESULTS

... in the 14 best all films but one are feature films! Does it show that documentaries are not so much appreciated? I presume it is because it is possible to demonstrate more skills with a feature film. Whilst the best documentaries can demonstrate many of the same skills as a feature filem (for w...

Re: Firewire to USB - any recommendations?

Dunno about any gizmos, but even if they work ***, if he has a desktop PC then buying a firewire card is definitely the most reliable way to do it and the cheapest (Other than getting you to capture onto yours and transferring via an external hard disk - which would be my suggestion if he has a lapt...

Re: BIAFF 2012 RESULTS

Thanks for the explanation, Dave. I'll only try a comedy if I think it's worth 5 stars or exceptionally funny then!

Re: BIAFF 2012 RESULTS

I see the Best Comedy wasn't awarded. Presumably there were some comedies entered and there must be other criteria. Does the film have to reach 4 star, 5 star, diamond status before it can be considered? Just interested.

Wouldn't give you tuppence for the car shot (though nothing to do with the barrel distortion), but the train carriage shot is superb.

though I thought I'd been welcoming in my email reply, though warning him that we were not great on discussing the latest gizmos, he never turned up, nor replied to my polite enquiry as to why not. That's very sad, but not unusual, Peter. I hope it doesn't put you off battling away too much. I'm su...

Re: Changing your club name

I hate the term 'movie' ... because it is associated in the public mind with 'Home Movies'. Without wishing to make an argument out of this (I'm genuinely interested), do you have anything to back this up, or are you simply assuming that because you (and maybe many others you talk to) associate it ...

Re: Changing your club name

We (Staines) recently changed to Video Makers - not an option in your list. (Though I see it's since been edited) Personally, I prefer (and voted for) Movie Makers as I like the alliteration and it rolls off the tongue nicely. The main objection seems to be that "Movie" is considered by so...

Officially the star ratings mean that the film: That, together with the stats and the description of how films are selected for showing at the festival, make for a fantastic post, Dave. Thanks. I agree, Emily's success in getting four stars in her first ever entry is fantastic Though I was somewhat...

Re: DEADLINE FOR IAC WEBSITE COMPETITION and BIAFF 31 Jan

Well, I ended up with a two-, a three, and a four-star so I guess I got all bases covered. The four star was for my Merry Xmas 2010 which will be familiar to many on the forum. Indeed it was largely down to the encouragement of the comments here that I entered it in BIAFF. As it's just a fun family ...
