Re: BIAFF Results 2022
In Belgium we have always called our identity card (ID-cards) passports. We thought both words were synonyms. Actually that's wrong. There are idenity cards and there are passports.

Re: BIAFF Results 2022
Dear Dave. On the internet I have read: "Sinds 1 oktober 2021 kunt u alleen met een paspoort naar het VK reizen. Een identiteitskaart is dan niet meer geldig. " It means :"Since 1 October 2021 you can only travel to the UK with a passport. An identity-card is than no longer valid.&quo...

Re: BIAFF Results 2022
Three clubmates will be in Birmingham 5 stars and I won't be able to attend BIAFF! That's a pity. But I will certainly see BIAFF on zoom. I registered some days ago. Moreover three clubmates will be in Birmingham. Werner Haegeman, his son Janos Haegeman and his neighbour De Ceuster. I have given We...

Re: BIAFF Results 2022
What a surprise! "The Fall of Icarus" 5 stars! I didn't expect it. One English friend told me that she found it a superb film. She had laughed quite a lot. She found it a very funny story. Another one didn't seem to be enthusiastic at all. That's why my expectations were rather low. Making...

Many thanks for telling me, Dave. I've checked my spam-mail. I've sent a message to BIAFF.

Re: BIAFF Results 2022
Hello friends, Yes, the forum is hardly used nowadays. It has gone dormant. But thanks to Howard-Smith, Michael Slowe and some other ones it's still alive. And actually it's thanks to our man of considerable influence and prestige that the discussion about the results has started again. Actually 6 t...

Re: How do you "sell" a film festival?
I do agree with you, Tim. The trophies are for the best films. There are always grumblings after competitions (also ice dancing, gymnastics, musical performances, etc...) They always bring some life to the brewery (expression in Dutch, maybe also in English). And we must admit... sometimes most of u...

Re: How do you "sell" a film festival?
Seperate category for old chaps? It's clear that most of us prefer a category for students at BIAFF. Actually we already talked about it some years ago. I remember that Ned has always been a supporter of that category. In the Czech Republic there was even a separate competition for the over 55-s. I...

Re: UK FILM REVIEWS
Many thanks for your good advice, Jill. Yes, that would have helped. I should have asked a quiet, helpful person to operate a camera of my choice. There are some quiet helpful people in our club who can help me. I forgot to tell you that I asked the obtrusive man, who is always very friendly when no...

Re: UK FILM REVIEWS
Imagine you are an artist. A painter. You are sitting at your easel. You want to show your feelings on canvas. You are happy with the end-result. You have been creative. You let your piece of art admire. Some may appreciate it. They can empathize with it. I means that you have been able to make your...

I agree with you, Howard. I am very happy that you have written this: "There is no way I would allow anyone else to edit my film. I would consider allowing other people to help out with are A. Additional camerawork. B. Sound recording C.Lighting. Camerawork has always been fun for me. Oskar Sie...

Re: About Death (Sobre la Muerte)
That's a very good suggestion, Howard. I think it was not the first time that I watched a professional (read 'commercial) film at BIAFF. It does not happen very often, but it happens. That's my feeling. Michael is right when he says that it is possible that friends form a group to make an extraordi...

Re: THE MOVIE MAKER TEN BEST COMPETITION
I think I have almost all issues of "Film and Video Maker" from 1999 onwards, Howard. I won "an international medaillon" twice which is actually an equivalent of a diamond award. That was in 2000 and 2001. But I never won a real diamond. Anyway, I am proud to have been very succe...

Re: THE BIAFF WEEKEND
I had already seen the Belgian film Iconoclasm by Peter Haesedonck and Marcel De Jonghe, Michael. Indeed it was a very good one and it deserved a diamond award. In February it was runner-up in the Belgian national competition. My Scottish film "His Royal Highland Laddie" was the overall wi...

Re: BIAFF 2021 RESULTS
Michael, last year you got only One Star for one of your films. That's not normal. Something must have happened. I am sure you were very disappointed. Let's say that 100 people would give your movie 4 stars, but at BIAFF one of the three judges hates your film for one or another reason. Then you are...
