One of the joys of the IAC is that little blue card that get's us into places and situations we might not otherwise be able to. It just lets folk know our intentions are genuine. I'm not sure I've been in what might be called 'unusual' but in the context of what our local populations do then I guess...

This years event (2007) was free entry but not next year. After this years event there was some thoughts about making sure the venue got a bit more out of the event as they are a charity as well. Our ticket price goes to a different charity on each show. It hasn't been decided how much yet but it is...

Thurso Bay is a beautiful area which sees mostly fishing boats and oil rig supply vessels along with daily sailings of the ferry to Orkney. The larger cruise ships and the Faroes ferry are impressive sights in the bay. What doesn't come across in our little film is how light it actually was on Monda...

Here's my thoughts: (see stock market crash) I'm a Thurso man, there is no finer town. Thurso is in Caithness of which there is no finer county, Caithness is in Scotland of which there is no better country, Scotland is part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain (even if we get independance) of whic...

NORRONA on youtube

Hello all, check out our latest little topical film on youtube. On Monday evening the Faroes ferry linking the islands with Norway via Scrabster (port of Thurso) was filmed shortly before departure on a beautiful full moon evening. Enjoy!

In Caithness 'beamer' means to be embarrassed from going bright red with embarrassment, beam (like beam of light) beaming (bright) beamer - bright red! i.e. He was really embarrassed" becomes, "He took a right beamer".

QUEEN OF THE FIRTH

Visit our new page on our website dedicated to the P&O ferry MV St Ola which serviced the route between Scrabster (port of Thurso) and Stromness on the Orkney mainland for many years. The ferry was much loved and many tales of voyages over the Pentland Firth involving this ship simply abound. (n...

I think the Rod Stewart song would be "Maggie", after the local fishing boat! :D I think the British sense of humour is ace, We are sinical, dry and never blink in the face of adversity. We've had some much happen in all conrners of our four kingdoms that there is nothing left to surprise ...

The fate alas is unkown. Whilst Wick is receiving a lot of futile regeneration schemes in a county with a hollow economy there are no likely takers for this building. There had been a hope on the final Friday that some of the committee would split and take over to continue but low membership (a stra...

Hey if it's twisters you want head for Caithness and leg it up to Loch More and Dalnawillan. There's a runway of twister activitey there especially if there are any thunderstorms or heavy showers. Dunnet Beach also throws up the occasional whirly. I saw one back in May this year. Sadly my camera bat...

I like the idea of using local musicians but up here they are so paranoid or so egotistical it's just not worth it for us. Additionally they can be very interested at the start but once you need things underway they just can't find the time. When it comes to getting help on a picture our local popul...
