Re: Another You Tube question!
Otherwise consider playing the disc in a stand-alone (set-top) DVD player and feeding its output into your editing system to make a "new" film which you can export in a more familiar file type for uploading. Or download a free trial of Sony Vegas (or Vegas Movie Studio), put the DVD into ...

Re: Copyright and YouTube revisited
I wrote a piece for FVM about all this last year. The gist of it was: Indeed, Dave and I read it - thanks for posting it here as a reminder and for the benefit of others. But not until now have I had a "test" case. I was going to suggest that the IAC should remove the claim I mentioned ab...

Copyright and YouTube revisited
The following may interest readers. I posted a video on YouTube of my daughter's class at school dancing to "The Ugly Bug Ball" sung by Burl Ives (don't worry I'm not including a link here!). Within minutes it had been flagged (no surprise there). I disputed the claim citing, the IAC licen...

Re: Newbie with questions!
Hi Jim and welcome, Your post covers a lot of ground, so rather than attempt to answer it all I'll just give you my immediate opinions. Others here know far more about lighting than me and will no doubt have much to say, but I wouldn't get too bogged down with 3 point lighting. My understanding is i...

Re: August 2012 issue of Film & Video Maker
Thanks for the reminder Dave. I find we are so overwhelmed with information these days that if I don't read the organ the moment it drops through my letterbox, it ends up under a pile of other stuff!

Maybe on one of your future trips, Willy. We all love hearing the anecdotes of what happens when we make films and I'm sure you make a fantastic raconteur.Willy wrote:If you ever want me to tell everything about my travelogues or documentaries...

Anyone good on lighting? Or documentaries/travelogues?
I'm in the process of finalising the Staines Movie Makers 2012/13 calendar and I could do with a couple of guest speakers. Something that's never been covered in my few years at the club is lighting. Does anyone know of anyone who might be available to give a talk/demonstration on basic lighting set...

Re: Disability day venue
Fantastic opening shot (and plenty of the others were very good too). Glorious scenery (when it's not raining!) Dave's point about getting the participants in close up is a good one, but watching the real time footage, rather than the slo-mo, I image it would be much easier to keep the subject in fr...

Re: IAC forums traffic
I'm inclined to agree with Fred. Forums work best when they are inhabited by those who want to play. Forcing the grown ups to play would have a similar effect to what used to happen when I was forced to play football at school - the whole team suffered. We have one or two grown ups here who are very...

Re: Copying from Humax HD digital PVR
Thanks for the additional info Peter. If you want to burn a video DVD, you'll need it in MPEG2 format eventually (which will be repackaged by your DVD authoring software as VOB files), so converting to avi would be an unnecessary additional conversion. Unless you want to edit the result in any way o...

Re: Future for clubs -
Well said guys. Those clubs with 70 members are very lucky, I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, but I'd just like to give credit where it's due - OVFM's 75+ members isn't lucky, it's a credit to the last 20 years of hard work by the committee and Reg Lancaster and Mike Turner's Chairmanship. Most...

Re: Copying from Humax HD digital PVR
I tried that, Tim, but didn't know how to open it on the computer, ie what programme to use. Sorry, Peter, I'm not sure I understand. Which file at this stage are you tying to open - the file on the USB stick or on the hard drive? In other words are you trying to do the copy (from USB stick to exte...

Re: Copying from Humax HD digital PVR
The other issue (I think) with FAT32, is that it can't handle file sizes over 2gb Actually it's 4GB, Chris (FAT16 is 2GB - although some sources quote differently). This 4GB limit would coincide nicely with the comment from Peter's friend that the PVR has a max file size of 4GB. So unless there are...

Re: Future for clubs -
Just need somewhere for the like-minded people to get together in the first place ... A club, maybe? That's rather what I thought I was joining when, as someone who'd just bought his first camcorder, I joined Staines in 2006. Wrong! I discovered I'd joined a social club where videos were just an ex...
