But only to SoCo members, I think. It's not yet on the IAC Website ( https://www.theiac.org.uk/iac/regions/soco/soco.htm ). So not public.tom hardwick wrote: ↑Thu Sep 02, 2021 4:40 pm The October 2021 SoCo News is out and about right now Tim.

Re: CEMRIAC on Zoom
OK, John's inadvertently posted links to a file on his own computer. I'm not sure about the etiquette of posting links to all the entries here as I don't think the entrants have given permission for them to be shared. However, they are published in SoCo news and I'm sure as soon as that becomes avai...

Re: CEMRIAC on Zoom
Michael - my film was a sequel to Cluedunnit which you weren't that keen on last year! It's not in the class of the films in the SoCo comp. But if you insist: https://youtu.be/kBtxOkgblcc

Re: How do you "sell" a film festival?
Willy I have absolutely no complaints about student films winning major trophies at BIAFF (I think last years Best British Entry was won by a student film). My concern is more that students are possibly discouraged from entering because they don't want to compete against "a bunch of old amateur...

Re: How do you "sell" a film festival?
When I wrote about "if you can't sell the sausage, sell the sizzle" I really meant that I want to know in this case: what is the "sizzle"? But you are advising on how to make a better "sausage" :D Because there isn't much sizzle? It's basically aimed at IAC film makers...

Re: How do you "sell" a film festival?
Loads to digest here. Fraught - thanks for your input. With your experience I think you should immediately be seconded to the BIAFF organising commitee. The reason I think BIAFF might receive more entries if word gets around is the fact that all entrants do receive written comments. I like, and have...

Re: How do you "sell" a film festival?
[Written, but not posted, before Ned & Howards last comments] Thanks John for confirming my suspiscions about attendees at (an admittedly very small sample of) student film festivals. Any BIAFF rebranding, to my mind must include International and must include amateur (or some other indication o...

Re: How do you "sell" a film festival?
The original question, posed by Dave, was HOW do we sell an amateur film festival, but the discussion seems to be about WHAT are we trying to sell. This is quite correct. Much like the question about the IAC itself, we need to know (a) what it is that people will get out of it and (b) who the target...

Re: How do you "sell" a film festival?
I think that most entrants to festivals assume their film will be screened in a cinema. But herein lies a problem (with BIAFF). We have seen sometimes pitifully small audiences at some of the Saturday screenings at BIAFF, making screening in cinemas not only economically unviable, but incredibly aw...

It's simple. I admire your work. Will you act as cameraman/DoP on my film and help realize my vision?

Timelapse of building works
I've been asked to investigate setting up a timelapse of a new build at a school I work at. Has anyone experience of putting together a timelapse of a building being constructed? What gear do I realistically need? Presumably a camera that is connected to the mains? Control via a PC rather than the c...

Re: CEMRIAC on Zoom
Thank you Howard - I've been trying to take a few lessons from your films! Yes, it was very enjoyable evening. It's billed as a "challenge" rather than a competition, so we're all winners, but I was very happy to see Jill & John's "Smart Speaker" get the audience vote. Simon ...

Re: 3D VR
By coincidence (OK, only vaguely related) the first thing I noticed on my Facebook feed after reading this thread was this on my local group site: https://tinyurl.com/fxm52922 It's of interest for a number of reasons - (a) it was made by an amateur film group, "Kingston & District Cine Club...

Re: 3D VR
ooooh, you tease. One problem with widespread takeup of VR is the cost of entry and there's no cheap, "gateway" drug to it (wheras with Playstation/xBox one can become acquainted with the concept of console games first through computer/tablet games before getting into the bigger boy stuff)...
