I saw it - possibly in the days of LIAFF.

Re: BIAFF Results 2022
Just to add to the last part of Richard's comment:
There will be online shows on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday before BIAFF so we will miss too many.

Re: BIAFF Results 2022
On the theme of judges' comments ... I have now heard some very negative responses as well as the foreign praise quoted earlier.
What does everyone think about the remarks they received?

Re: BIAFF Results 2022
Flattery, Michael!!! I think some of the interest has moved to the various FaceBook groups and to a Twitter feed which is mainly dormant. On the broader question of involvement ... I think we are going through a period of social disengagement. People are forgetting the importance of being together i...

Re: BIAFF Results 2022
It is a pity the forum is quiet ... but perhaps people need more time to consider their results, calm down and reflect on them. Just after I wrote that sentence I received a comment on Facebook Messenger from an overseas entrant, who takes part in a great many festivals: Just received a jury evaluat...

Re: BIAFF Results 2022
I get the impression the trio in charge are carefully reading the crits to make sure they are not cruel or misleading. I know a couple of judges have been politely asked to make minor changes ... on the lines of "could you add a sentence to explain why, after so much praise, this film did not g...

Re: BIAFF Results 2022
I'm puzzled, Michael. Do you have a precog ability hitherto unrevealed?
So far as I know the results are not yet known, let alone published.
There were certainly the usual range of films from absolute beginner's level - what I would get if I ever entered anything - up to superb and delightful.

How short is too short?
An Austrian festival is now seeking entrants for films of up to 12 seconds.
Aaargh!
On the other hand many contests for one-minute movies used to insist on each film lasting exactly 60 seconds ... which led to padding!
How short can a film be and still work?

Re: UNICA
People mainly enter films into festivals in the hope that they will be a stepping stone for them to get into the film industry. I let that go at first, but it has been preying on my mind. It sounds like a piece of wisdom handed down in a club by some older member. But it does not ring true to me - ...

Re: UNICA
You touch on a point that has been much discussed during the pandemic ... A great many people, like Howard, argue vehemently in favour of real events, where you watch films with an audience. The ambience often adds a lot. I once watched a press-show of a riotous commercial comedy film in a huge cine...

Re: UNICA
The national organisation for each country (in UK that is The IAC) chooses the programme of films to represent the country. Each country has about 45 minutes. IAC usually chooses from among the best in BIAFF. The IAC's UNICA representative, Alan Atkinson, makes the choice with advice from others who...
