Re: A New Video Magazine??!!
What I'm getting at with this over-long tale is that I suspect many of the camcorders that have been sold have rarely been used to make films; perhaps to film the grandchildren, but they wouldn't need a mag or a club to help them do that (or wouldn't think they did). That is so true, Peter. Many pe...

That's better than the educational licence pricing! Good spot, Tom.

Probably once a fortnight, I read a post online which makes me laugh out loud.Michael Slowe wrote:Here's another suggestion Tom, find a younger client!

Re: A New Video Magazine??!!
Just received my 'first' copy of DFM ... and I have mixed feelings. Difficult to say exactly who it is aimed at - anyone who makes movies one way or another, I guess, but with a bias I'd say towards the SLR camera. Not surprising. That's where the market is. Either the "kids" who need to ...

Re: Auto cue
There are dozens of DIY telepropmpter vids. This was one of the simplest descriptions of teh principle I came across: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HZhQ6x3Y-U I think a smartphone would be too small to be realistically useful. I have a Windows phone app which scrolls text in big letters but imagin...

Re: A New Video Magazine??!!
Leaving aside feasibility and cost, I don't think FVM has the content to be of appeal to people who are not involved in the IAC or affilliated clubs. Sure, there are frequent articles about techniques and equipment, but this oncly comprises a comparatively small part of the magazine. Most of the mag...

Re: A New Video Magazine??!!
Indeed. I've just come across their facebook page and the first issue was called "DSLR Filmmaker". By issue two they'd changed the name . (From Facebook We realise that many filmmakers don't just rely on DSLR camera technology to make movies. Many aspiring directors also use camcorders and...

Re: A New Video Magazine??!!
When I first got into video making in 2005/06 (remember, I'm a newcomer comapred to most here) there was a magazine on the bookstall - Digital Video Techniques. I saw the complete life cycle of that magazine (it lasted about three years, I think). The problem for a magazine of this sort it is very d...

Re: Crowd Funding
If you are so passionate about your video why not go down an other avenue and market your product to the consumer. Even car boot market could help. Surely directing marketing at a consumer is with the intent of selling copies of this particular film whereas entering festival is with a view to promo...

Re: Red Carpet Screenings
Let's not go overboard, Geoff. There was one female film-maker who had two films in the show. They wer by far the most "arty" or "left field" films and I wasn't sure whether she was a genius or simply deluded. (OK there were plenty of females involved in other roles - I'm just be...

Guess I'll be on my own then!
I was wrong about "Addict" - I meant "Karen's Room". I can't keep up with all these films.

Anyone else planning to go to the Red Carpet Screening in Basingstoke this Saturday (1st June)? Geoff Harmer's "Addict" is among the attractions.

Re: Attracting New Members
Many youngster nowadays prefer to work in their own age group and form their own little club and stream their work on YouTube or Vimeo( Was that a cleaning product in the 60s?) And that seems to be the rub. If we want to attract youngsters, we need to be able to attract groups of youngsters. One or...
