It's all well and good as a technique but it get's on my goat a bit because it get's over used or should I say they try to hard to give it the hand-held look. Over shaking the camera is just stupid when simply holding a camera genrates the real and right amount of shake. There was some American cop ...

Two versions on the same disc, nice idea! Well actually we are kinda forced to do this and endure letterbox by dint of our own big screen which is 13ft wide (and with deep regret) happens to be 16:9 ratio! It was all we could afford at the time. :( But the thing is we have access to a real c...

4:3 quite rightly didn't exist until optical sound arrived, I think that was around 1930 although there were other exploritory sound-on-film formats prior to HiFi. We have an old original 35mm silent with full frame more like the shape of super 8 which is slightly wider than 4:3. Television has been...

Eh gads, Try not to assume anything about how we use film. I already said we widened the film gates in our cameras and projectors. (boil for 20 minutes and allow 5 minutes to sink in  ) Never said anything about getting rid of 16:9 or speculate it's longevity. I don't get how you don't understa...

 Oh dear, here we go. We use video more than cine. We don't use 16:9 ratio or anything like it. We generally don't use 4:3 unless it's appropriate or excepting that a 2x anamorphic is fitted in front. We shoot most of our films with 2x anamorphic. We only show our films on cinema screens. We ...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Stop right there ladies! ( :D ooplaa!) There are those of us shooting ANAMORPHIC on video as well as cine. For correct frame ratios in projection we need 4:3. Do you know how hard it is to find a decent priced 1.5x anamorphic, nevermind one in good nick? W...

I like the whole idea of titles being a bit more active than just words on the screen. Working with the logo into the title sections, the way the words are displayed quite rightly affects the audience reaction and interest in the film. It was common in the 1950s and particularly the 1960s. Hitchcock...

A logo is very important no matter how good or bad the ensuing film may be. An upbeat logo is probly a good start, you wouldn't want something that would best preceed a state funeral! I am aware of one groups logo (and we won't say who) but the way it's set up is simple and practical. However it's m...

What does that mean? Perhaps a reason many people don't change their ideas for other folks opinion is that the opinion hasn't been convincing enough or simply delivered in a way that get's the back up! Additionally people may not change their ideas simply because an opinion may be voiced without ful...

Our logo is a bit 'big impact' with transitons but they are fade-thrus between 3 still images and a live-action shot inside our old local cinema but the final shot is always the same PHF logo which is done in a nice classic but not over the top style. We have changed the opener 5 times but the eleme...

Fox won't change the name. I spoke to them about this back in 1995 and they said they had their plans which seems to have been Fox Searchlight. Their name is iconic and one of the most famous logos on the planet. It's a little like the Daleks in Doctor Who- you can tweek them but outrightly change t...

Filming local events is all part of what we do in Thurso. It's where our people learn how to film on the spot. We have an in-house larf at some other local photographers who fumble about with unbelievable over-equipment whilst we are in like lightning getting the shots and away before you can say tr...

The press can do it partly because they have a press card and only need to whip it out (steady) when the law arrives. The press are also pushy on the boundaries because they know how far they can push. As such if you are a tourist there's no problem. If you are filming an event you are covered by th...
