Re: BIAFF 2018

Just thought I'd pop up and say that I'm not adverse to pumping money into BIAFF from the IAC coffers, but any injected funds need to be targetted effectively and the eventual returns need to justify the expense, even if that is not directly seen by attendees or casual observers (as might not be the...

Re: BIAFF 2018

Pumping money blindly into BIAFF is not necessarily the correct path to follow, and it has to be remembered of course that BIAFF is not the sole reason the IAC exists. It's true, the IAC does appear to currently have some spare cash, and I wasn't a part of it during its darkest financial days, but t...

Re: BIAFF 2018

Hi Michael, BIAFF 2019 arrangements are ongoing but we do have a short list of possible locations with venues that can offer a 'cinema style' Sunday Award Winners Show, something that was positively welcomed following the results of the survey at BIAFF 2017. In the interim, BIAFF 2018 still needs a ...

Re: BIAFF 2018

Hi Ned, I proposed the establishment of a dedicated BIAFF website in 2015 to separate it from the (necessarily complex and all-encompassing) IAC main website. The intention was to allow the competition and festival to be promoted and targetted independently. It was subsequently set up in 2016 for BI...

Re: Programme not recognising files.

Hi Peter! I think we're always interested, although maybe some of us (like myself) are unfamiliar with the program so can't help as well as they would like to :D I very occasionally have similar issues between my Win7 PC, which is my main machine for editing, and my Win10 laptop, which has identical...

Re: epson printer XP-645

Hi Roy, it appears you are having a few issues and there might be any number of solutions! In truth, more information would be needed, for example what operating system is the printer now installed on (that is not working correctly) and what operating system did it previously work OK on? What versio...

Re: DVD storage

I used to use these transparent multicoloured slimline CD jewel cases and I think you can find them cheaper than Maplins (as you can with most things Maplins sell!) A quick search on Amazon found a pack of 25 for £9.99, although I paid £4.99 for packs of 25 from my local Tesco when they were clearin...

Re: TURN TURN TURN

Hi Tim, I noticed the same thing - i.e. a slight change in picture ratio although I believe it was only one or two pixels out. Like you, I didn't even know about the quick rotation method under 'properties' as I've always been used to changing it under Pan/Crop. We could speculate all day as to why ...

Re: TURN TURN TURN

Right click on the event on the timeline and select Properties. Go to the Media tab Change the value for Rotation Job done! Is that not what Dave said he'd done, Tim? Also MS12 does appear to have the ability to rotate at track level - I've certainly done this many times with my animations. I've ju...

Re: TURN TURN TURN

The only thing I can think of Dave is that commencing recording in portrait mode and then turning the phone sideways, still results in a recording in portrait format. It would be a similar (but opposite) result with any camcorder/DSLR if you decided to film in portrait mode - the clip would be impor...

Re: Lumix FZ72 Focusing Problem

Hello Stephen. Firstly, I don't own an FZ72 and I'm unfamiliar with this camera, but if you are referring to 'focus hunting' and then locking onto something random or giving up altogether, this is an issue with most cameras at extreme focal lengths. Of course it's very dependent on subject matter, c...

Re: NewProjector

Hi John, I was particularly impressed with the projector Michael Gough brought to BIAFF 2016 at Harrogate - we used it for the AV show on the huge screen in the ballroom, but unfortunately not for the award winner's show, which we should have done. I can't comment on the format switch or quietness o...

Re: Copyright query

Peter - just do it. To not be able to wade through a 256 page legalese document full of gobbledegook unintelligible to anyone but highly paid lawyers would be defence enough in most cases. I'm not a lawyer but as a musician of many decades and some experience of copyright issues I believe any tradit...

Re: Voice recorders

Good advice, Peter I would add it's better to under-record the audio than risk clipping the signal if it gets too loud. It's very easy to bring the audio level back up in the editor by normalising and using other techniques, but it's almost impossible to remove the horrid distortion caused by signal...
