Re: DISCUSS BIAFF 2011 RESULTS

Willy, you are probably as well qualified to judge as those judging your films, that's really my point. It is of course useful to have comments from your peers (it means equals) but you and I are quite aware of any faults that may be pointed out in written criticisms. We may not do very much about t...

Re: DISCUSS BIAFF 2011 RESULTS

I never complain about judges or their comments, that to me is the height of arrogance. We submit our films in the knowledge that they are up for judgement and that we will accept the verdict. Actually I got the grade I thought I would get (5 Whatsits) plus two bits I didn't expect. As to the commen...

You can of course let Tom Hardwick do it for you and save a great deal of worry and hassle!

Re: Marketing of SIV's

It just so happens that I'm being offered money by a TV station and now a distributer for a particular film. I'm very conscious of the morals concerning 'non commercial' film making and refuse to accept it personally. What I do is to divert it to the IAC. That way the 'movement' in general can benef...

Re: JVC DV Player/Recorder & Sony AX2000e camera

Well, thank goodness Willy has taken the big step, I was starting to lose sleep over it! Although I haven't contributed I have found the thread fascinating. A number of separate topics were addressed, so much so that I expected our stern moderator to issue a warning but none came. Therefore may I co...

Re: 3D HD TV

I HATE 3D! It ruins a film for me and also the picture quality. Saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D and although some effects are clever the general picture quality was nowhere near the lovingly shot films that we generally see in the cinema or even on TV documentaries. It's true that at somewhere like IM...

Re: Short Films

Thanks Peter for your kind comments. Actually I now have a better film on dogs (well hounds actually) and their keeper and trainer which I think you'll like. Watch out for it at BIAFF in April. Unfortunately I can't be there as I have rather an important family anniversary that falls then. If there'...

Re: Short Films

Peter, this is, if I may say so, just my bag. I make documentaries and always fall foul of the 'keep it short' brigade. I used to manage with fast cut to music 'impressions' which, although very popular and winning lots of awards, did not really satisfy. Like you I wanted to delve deeper and convey ...

Re: NEW LOOK IAC WEBSITE

I would like to add my appreciation to 'The Wattersons' (mostly Jan we are told) for creating the new look web site. One is immediately struck by the modern, cleaner look and the clearly indicated index for all the various items. It is a real pleasure to use, thank you both very much. It will inevit...

Re: Sky Transmission

Yes Tom, I thought it looks OK picture wise, all they wanted was a DVCAM master, the broadcast apparently looks good too, I didn't see it. Actually it is in my new 'post impressionist' style! I'm making more documentaries now rather than cut to music impressions and the editing consequently is less ...

Re: Standard 8, Hi8, MiniDV and HDV tapes. What to do with them?

Well said Dave, the performance history of these drives is not encouraging. I don't even trust them to hold camera XDCAM files whist shooting a film, I back up twice before taking media into my edit hard drives. Col, in my opinion you might do well to purchase a professional deck, such as the Sony D...

Re: Telephoto lens required for filming waders.

I've been reading this thread with interest and waiting for someone to make the suggestion that I expected. An IAC prizewinner (schoolmaster I think) of a few years back, made a film about a Dipper bird by a Scottish river. I was in correspondence with him having admired his film and I learnt that h...
