Re: 50 plus year old film !

To an old man like me (and I suspect Albert Noble), fifty years is like the blink of an eye. I have some of my best work dating back that long and I remember some wonderful films such as the American documentary 'Cotton Eyed Joe '(Ten Best). Has the standard of film making improved? I don't think so...

BIAFF 2023

Someone has alerted me that the Coronation is scheduled at the same time as BIAFF next year. That is unfortunate to say the least but perhaps our eminent Committee could persuade the broadcasters to cover both events at once! On a serious note, I note that we can enter films to BIAFF via FilmFreeway...

Re: Filming with an iphone

I also shot a film on an i phone but that was because it was just a holiday 'travelogue' and I would not attempt anything serious with it. Why not? Pure prejudice probably, but there are some technical factors. Audio might be the first doubt. Can proper mics be connected to an i phone? Certainly not...

Re: Entering competitions..

John ,your mention of the old Ten Best reminds me that it was the best forum ever for non commercial film makers, I know because I was lucky enough to get six of my films shown by them at the NFT. Film makers of international standing had their careers launched by this competition. The thrill of see...

Re: Entering competitions..

John, I have nothing against You Tube, you can find some great films on there. You don't mention Vimeo at all, do you ever use it and do you think that it is a good forum for film makers?

Re: Entering competitions..

John, you are obviously a You Tube fan. I understood that film makers were more advised to put their films on either Vimeo or have their own site. I followed this advice and I know that I would get far more 'views' on You Tube because I get very few as things are now. I always thought that You Tube ...

Re: Entering competitions..

That's interesting Howard. The subject of my coffee selling film, 'Danny's Red Box' has queried why I didn't include the word 'coffee' in the title. He considers that if I had we would have had far more 'views' on line. Apart from my own Vimeo and Web Site he put the film on You Tube and is counting...

Re: Entering competitions..

How much did you pay them Howard?

No, I'm joking, that is amazing. I've got stuff on You Tube, Vimeo and my own web site and never have figures approaching those. Even my 'Tits & More' didn't attract the hopeful ones!

Re: Entering competitions..

You are quite right about the expense of entering (most) Festivals, but we have to remember that this is mainly to re coup the considerable costs of running the event. I imagine that professional judges would be rewarded in some way and there may well be paid staff to deal with the admin. I don't se...

Re: 60 years on !

Albert, I am very much afraid that it will. I cannot see any way that it can be avoided now that humanity has taken over the planet completely. Not in our lifetime but not many centuries later I think.
Great piece of work by the way, all the years have not taken away your skill!

Re: Elvis

You two youngsters discussing pop people and pop music makes me realise how out of touch this old man is. Your points about true documentary and biopics are timely. The line has become blurred to say the least between the two genres and I think that it can be quite dangerous. As we know, people take...

Ned, are you coming to Europe this year? It would be good to meet up if possible as we have previously.

Re: A really amazing coincidence.

Well Albert, you are ahead of me by exactly two years. We have had two centurions and countless nineties in our family so I might have a few more films in me yet. I'm glad you liked my site. As to dates, I might try and have them added but this information is not relevant to anything really. That Gl...

Re: A really amazing coincidence.

Albert, so sorry to hear about your lost originals. I had my best 16mm film prints digitised some years ago to have decent archive copies. Mind you, they look rather 'filmic' now compared to 2 and 4K! Yes, I'm still making films, just cutting my latest this month. All my stuff (1970 onwards) is on m...

Re: A really amazing coincidence.

Albert Noble, there's a name from the past! So glad to read that he's still film making, I think that one year we shared the stage at the NFT, a long time ago! Red Type was a work of genius, where can we still see it, can Albert please tell us? Text is a tricky thing to deal with on film because qui...
