Re: Suggested One Minute films

One of the side effects of asking for comments from the floor is - you receive comments from the floor! Unfortunately there are a few who like to show off their "knowledge" of film making by seeking out as many faults as they can and concentrating on those. There are also those who love to...

Re: The shorcomings of a film

Hi Jameela thanks for your comments; what is interesting is that they are typical "judges evaluations" that address perceived technical "faults" in both clips and offer technical solutions; the implication being that these were unintended. In the case of the formal style clip th...

Re: DVD and Blu-ray discs

The one probable advantage to many people (though not to me) of watching them via internet services is that of cost; it`s cheaper than buying. I think cost does come into it. Realistically, how often will you watch a film? Maybe as an enthusiast you'll want to dip in to parts of a film occasionally...

Re: DVD and Blu-ray discs

So to share our creations beyond our own "community of enthusiasts", the disk is an easy way for other people to watch on their TV. I WAS going to respond that this contradicts Howard's original post and the fact that fewer and frewer people have the means to play Discs nowadays. And then...

Re: DVD and Blu-ray discs

Another angle to this discussion. As some of you know, Martine and I often film local school nativities and productions. We have offered DVDs for years and more recently 1080p files for download. There has been no interest in BluRay. It seems the primary schools in particuylar still have a preferenc...

Re: The shorcomings of a film

The same is surely true in all art - indeed I'd go as far as to say in all forms of communication. So long as there is no MIScommunication, often the first attempt or first few attempts capture the spirit best. How often do we hear of a particularly good rendition of a song by a band and when questi...

Re: The shorcomings of a film

Totally agree, John. In fact I'd go one further than The maker of a film often knows what's wrong with it. and suggest only a film maker knows what's wrong with it. Others might suggest faults or fixes, but only the film maker knows whether those fixes are in line with their own intent/philosphy for...

Re: BIAFF 2022

But, apart from the Gala Dinner, what are you doing about other meals? It would be a shame if we can't arrange for at least some of us to lunch and dine together as we have so little time for mixing and discussing, meal times form part of it. I may join you at a Premier Inn. No sure I could face Wet...

Re: Virtual Video Group IAC Membership Application

I am surprised the VVG isn't already affiliated. The IAC should make this possible, poste haste as the VVG is a fantastic initative. There are many groups who meet online and whilst at present it may seem the IAC might not appeal to them, this certainly one area we should look at expanding into. To ...

Re: BIAFF 2022

Where are you getting this info, Howard? What arrangements have you made for eating/are the organisers making for eating? In previous years this was easy - one could book meals in the hotel in which the films were being shown. Indeed one could book meals on the BIAFF booking slip. At the last "...

Re: 3D VR

For action in the round, with true immersion, the theatre provides that does it not? Not quite (other than in some experimental theatre) as you are still seated and looking mainly in one direction. With VR you are in among the action. I don't think anyone expects VR to replace traditional large scr...

Re: 3D VR

Michael, in case you're not familiar, this isn't 3D as you recall it. This is Virtual Reality. What this mean is you wear a headset (like a pair of goggles) and the image fills your whole view. As you turn your head, your motion is detected and what you see changes accordingly. Imagine you are in an...

Re: Filming a Play

I haven't watched this as yet, but I certainly understand a lot of the work you must have put into this. I frequently (with an 18 month COVID gap) film school productions - several nights two cameras per night and it's very time consuming putting all that together - and that's all on one stage. So, ...

But only to SoCo members, I think. It's not yet on the IAC Website ( https://www.theiac.org.uk/iac/regions/soco/soco.htm ). So not public.

Re: CEMRIAC on Zoom

OK, John's inadvertently posted links to a file on his own computer. I'm not sure about the etiquette of posting links to all the entries here as I don't think the entrants have given permission for them to be shared. However, they are published in SoCo news and I'm sure as soon as that becomes avai...
