Re: Recommended movies on the web - UPDATED

I can thoroughly recommend this film, made by some friends of mine, with some help from myself (i recorded the sound). It's called 'Writer's Block', and its a comedy. Hope you enjoy it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9maRmwUTwI Really enjoyed that! great script and great acting. (And the sound was...

Re: Marketing of SIV's

I find it interesting that in the process of using the IAC forum to advertise your commercial venture, you still see fit to throw in a dig about their "archaic competition rules"! Just for the record, I disagree with your claim that they're archaic, and I believe they are correct and prope...

Re: Club Publicity - ideas wanted

The vast majority of our new members (the rest are friends of friends) at Orpington Video and Film makers in the last 5 years have come from our website. They've found it by searching for Video Club Orpington or something similar, and then telephoned us. I don't know if we've been lucky, because it'...

Re: YOUTUBE REVISITED

I totally agree Dave. YouTube has 24 HOURS of video uploaded to it EVERY MINUTE, and some of it IS rubbish, but if only people could look beyond the tip of their noses, there's so much more, good quality, home made films, just like we make... but you can have 20,000 people view your art instead of o...

Re: add-on mics for camcorders

ANY mic up close (a foot or so) will sound better than a £1000 mic 10 feet away. I used to use a £25 Vivanco tie-mic on a 5m extension cable for a long time, and I don't remember any impossible problems with interference. You do however HAVE to wear full headphones, so you can hear when you're picki...

Re: YOUTUBE REVISITED

I made a club film about YouTube a few months ago.

And still people call it UTube... It drives me mad everytime I see that! <akes me think of Txting teenagers that can't spell.
Anyway, I thought it might be relevant :-)

Re: Lady Needs Camera

The canon legria FS 20, 21 and 22 all have mic and headphone sockets, and the 20 is around £299.

That's hardly megabucks in camcorder terms, and I'd imagine you'd be hardly likely to get a reasonable filmmakers camcorder for less than that, even on ebay?

hope this helps!

Re: Lady Needs Camera

umm, surely all the s/h cameras are on ebay! :-) I know if I was selling an old camera, that's where I'd sell it... I advise new camera buyers to buy canon, as at the lower end of the price range, most of them have separate mic and headphone sockets - what I consider to be the absolute minimum for a...

Re: Judges critiques - a criticism!

I'm afraid I completely don't understand the confusion here. If I made a film listing stamp collecting statistics, which would be VERY interesting for an expert stamp collector, would I expect it to be judged on an even standing with a documentary made about the history of the great fire of london? ...

Re: take a look at my New Documentary Please.

It says the video has been removed by the user.

It's a great shame, as it would be very educational for many people to see the film, and then read the comments.

But now, that lesson has been taken away.

Why not reinstate the video, so that people can see and learn for years to come? :-)

Re: What baffled you when you began filming?

My advidce to you snide, is don't start with your dream film, as you'll learn a lot making it, but it won't be your best, and you wont want to remake it when you've learned all your lessons. Make a few simple documentaries first, make lots of mistakes and learn from them, and THEN make your dream fi...

Re: Police info for filming in public

your best bet then, in London, is to print out the Police's Guidance to Police Officers, and then, if someone stops you who hasn't read it, you can produce your trump card! :-)

Re: What baffled you when you began filming?

Make lots of horrible rubbish films, and be proud of making loads of painful mistakes!!
Everyone's done it, and it really is ok to do it.

You have to make mistakes in order to learn from them!
