Re: "muting" HDMI signals

Thsi is about the cheapest one I'm aware of..

Old analog signals were easy and cheap to manufacture, but as soon as you go digital, there's a lot of electronics to get in the way.

Re: Club Publicity - ideas wanted

That would be us, Dave. We launched it in November with a closing date (for entries - the films didn't have to be ready until March) of end January, which we exended to February. Poster campaigns (camera shops, libraries, council noticeboards) before and after Christmas as well as managing to beg a...

Re: Web site competition

I'm sorry I didn't address your question, but I guess I didn't really understand the question... The competition is a free and voluntary one, that the Judges give their time for free to judge, so why would they want to give themselves 5 times more work, judging a website that didn't want to be judge...

Re: Web site competition

We got our results too and personally, I think they're very fair, and congratulations to Surrey Borders club! However, looking at the winner's website, I can feel fairly confident that there's nobody in our club that would be willing to write so much content and keep it up to date as years pass, so ...

Re: CASABLANCA and also TAPE DROP OUTS

Well, although Chris' somewhat in depth comments are no doubt true all it does for me is to confirm my hypothesis that 50 plus - forget it! There's far more things worthwhile to making / producing video / films than messing about with often confusing technicalities. You've totally hit the nail on t...

Re: CASABLANCA and also TAPE DROP OUTS

I'm afraid I have to disagree with your correspondent's analysis of the difference with dual and quad core processsors. True, running basic software that hasn't been written with multi-threading in mind is actually slower on a multi-core processor than a single processor! But, with software written ...

Re: JVC DV Player/Recorder & Sony AX2000e camera

I'm not sure how to slot this into the conversation, but I've still been passed by with the whole HD fuss. Maybe it's because my peer group are also uninterested in HD. I would guess 50% of my club are at least capable of producing HD films, but we don't use it, and vary rarely does the topic raise ...

Re: Marketing of SIV's

Just a minor point of fact.... :-)

The original post was talking about competition rules.... How did this dicussion get onto copyright licenses?

I know the two words both begin with the letter 'C', but aren't we stretching it a bit?

Interesting examples of different lighting

This is primarily about Still photography, but I found the variety of defferent lighting results quite interesting and informative.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKAD7leNOVY Skip forward to 5:56 for the relevant and interesting bit. (although I know most of you will watch it all the way through, j...

Where's the content????

I just watched a film by one of Fraught's friends, and strangely, I felt surprised that it had plot and content! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9maRmwUTwI Now of course, that seems a weird statement, but so often nowadays, I watch indie films on the web, and after minutes of fancy/beautiful colouri...

... me as 3D only has a very limited number of depths available... I don't understand that - if you're talking about the 3D created with a two lens camera, replicating the eyes, which is how Avatar was shot. Artificially created 3D would be limited. Similar differences occur in animation, where '3D...

Re: 3D HD TV

When I saw Avatar at the cinema, I could see the 3D effect, but to me it looked like cardboard cutouts of things at different depths. Real life has objects at an infinite number of different depths, and I'm guessing this is why the effect fails for me as 3D only has a very limited number of depths a...

Re: Am I allowed to make a film about it ?

Michael Moore is also very well known for falsifying facts to aid his points. For example, he spliced together 2 George Bush speeches and presented them as one speech to change the meaning. Unfortunately, he didn't chage Bush's Tie, as it changes to and fro throughout the piece! I don't see how a La...
