Re: Filming with an iphone

Charles Dowding is a "No DIg" gardener in Somerset, near me. He gets his sons or other followers to make videos of his activities, he has 580k subscribers on YouTube. They have gone over to filming with an iphone with Bluetooth radio mic. iphone needs something extra for sound. There are i...

Re: Filming with an iphone

Yes I agree about poor sound, also it seem actors are often encouraged to speak softly and run words together, that linked to background music can cause problems for the large and small screen. At least with TV the viewer can put subtitles on, but they have to be well synced. To make a really good p...

Re: Entering competitions..

I recently watched an interview with the late great Alan Rickman and he said he liked to gauge a film by watching it in a cinema with a live audience who were watching the whole thing without breaks, and seeing their reactions. From their reactions he could tell if the film had worked. I, on the, ot...

Re: Filming with an iphone

If a film is intended to be watched on the big screen it is important to watch a preview on as big a screen as possible, or the place where it is going to be shown, because sometimes unnoticed stuff like picture break up and lighting changes can only be seen then. I suppose the old addage of always ...

Re: Entering competitions..

Going back to entering competitions: there can be several reasons why people do this. I can think of a few. To promote themselves or their film club, college, or group. To put over an idea which amuses or concerns the maker of the film. To fulfil an ambition which could go back to seeing the "T...

Re: Entering competitions..

Just a quick reply, I came to Video Clubs, from YouTube, wanting to learn about film making!! To my surprise some film clubs hated YT and they were not too keen on teaching about film making either! As I say previously, it seemed they viewed film making as a dark secret art. Has anyone else noticed ...

Re: Entering competitions..

Gaining YouTube views is a bit of a dark art.. One way I discovered by accident: Find a very niche subject and make the best film (there won't be many others) about it. "Tuckpointing" is now has over a quarter of a million views. It will most likely only appear to a limited number of peop...

Filming with an iphone

The quality of using the iphone for filming is a huge subject. But the sharpness and auto focus of the image using an iphone 11 seems unbelievable! People are saying that now the auto stabalisation on the iphone 14 takes it up to another level - how is it done? What are the drawbacks?

Re: Entering competitions..

Tonight I’m pleased to have received confirmation that two of my eleven entries to the Birmingham Film Festival have been Officially Selected: ‘Crush’ and ‘Frankie’. A just reward for making quality films, and also encouraging many actors and scriptwriters. I hope you are able to enter all 11 films...

EUTHIMMERSIA

A hard to watch discomforting film, very well acted and filmed. Clever story line a huge amount of work must have gone into making this.

PARTY POPPERZ BACK ON THE ROAD 3 Star

I enjoyed watching this film, the filming reminded me of the BBC comedy "This country". To me it seemed like a very clever spoof, maybe there needed to be more clues that it was not serious - but a big thumbs up from me :D

Re: BIAFF 2022

"Two Lives in One Journey" A movie that appealed to me a little more was "Two Lives in One Journey" by Graham Kay. I got tears in my eyes when I saw this wonderfully moving story. Graham delivered the film in a special way. It was not boring at all. He is an elderly cinematograp...

Open Film Night

Open Film Night worked well on Sunday 29th May. The films were shown on by Simon on Zoom this time and they played well. Paul Kittel did a wonderful job of chairing the evening. There were more than 25 people there, so film-makers had a good audience. Our Bournemouth Video Club film: "Contradic...

Re: BIAFF 2022

This is a new point: With the evening showings on-line YouTube link, it takes a long time for my set up to start the film, about a minute. And then there is a tendencey for the sound and video to go out of sync. I wonder if this is because a lot of people are using the same link and video at the sam...
