Re: Music videos
but as far as amateur film-making is concerned would not include them within the 'amateur film-making world' as I know it, this is not intended to 'reduce' music videos to a 'lower' category, but to a 'category' of their own, entirely valid as I see it. Tony Williams I have to take issue, Tony, with...

Re: Music videos
I agree that Music Videos have a tendency to follow a 'fundamental set of rules'......John Roberts ACID RAIN is a classic example of "storyline intercut with band". The formula works well......some naturally can go an extra mile in terms of creativity when given an increased budget. IE: ht...

Re: BIAFF - the Festival
Very good Tim...and I was still awake at the end of your film! It is a curiosity of the digital revolution that there are indeed genres of video making which are much more popular than 'entertainment film making'. That more people are fascinated by 'Cat Behaviour patterns,' 'bowel movements,' 'consp...

Re: BIAFF - the Festival
I am an enthusiast of VIMEO.....and I am delighted that Dave has created a Channel to show the BIAFF 2105 films. However amassing a large quantity of 'hits' is, I suggest, unlikely. The only way to generate large volume response on Vimeo is to have the good fortune to have a film selected by the Sta...

Re: BIAFF - the Festival
My first observation with regard to the films this year at BIAFF is that there has been an incremental improvement in the overall standard of the films which I saw on the Sunday. AUDIO is, by and large, very much better (and so it should be) and cutting has become very much more sharp......ACID RAIN...

Re: BIAFF - the Festival
Five hours with a brief stop....both there, and back for me, Ken, and a total distance of 240 miles each way give or take a traffic cone. I decided to set off at 5.00am from Sittingbourne and found myself already in heavy traffic on the M25 at 6.00 am...still, it paid off (for once) as I was ahead o...

Re: WANTED: 1-Minute Movies with visual action / stories
The DRILL does have similarities to the one minute film as outlined by Dave Watterson......and The DRILL itself is loosely based on Gerard Hoffnung's speech to the Oxford Union back in the 1950's......and his speech too came from an earlier shaggy dog tale. The genius of Hoffnung was his gift of del...

Re: Music videos
How interesting....the genre does need some defining but by it's very nature it can be very loose......in the example posted by NED the "song" has a very tenuous, if any, connection to the beautiful and roving imagery. For me it works well as a meld of music and photography......however ra...

Re: BIAFF 2015 entries
Brian Saberton....I remember the BORING FILM from 1971 ! I was there...I had a film which made it to the National Film Theatre although it was not among the TOP TEN. I recall the controversy it caused at the time; the incessantly ringing phone and the complete absence of any action. It 's still bori...

AUDIO and CLUB PRESENTATION of AUDIO
It is often said that AUDIO is 50% of film making. I contend that that is not the case. AUDIO is 25% of film making...the remaining 25% is in the PRESENTATION of that Audio. We can work all we like on our audio 'timelines' but without a decent AMP and LOUDSPEAKER set up we are wasting our effort. I ...

Re: YOU TUBE versus VIMEO
Thank-you Tim, Yes my films can be found on my YOU TUBE page although my tendency is to leave it to it's own devices! I have been more active on VIMEO and have built up a larger subscriber base as a result. My 'flagship film' ROCK BOTTOM has attracted 63K views which is truly amazing when one consid...

YOU TUBE versus VIMEO
I have just received a request from Chichester Film and Video Makers to subscribe to their YOU TUBE CHANNEL. No problem there; however the 'comment box' of the film they are showing has been disabled either by design or in error. **** It is a personal thing but I find VIMEO a much more attractive pr...

Re: BIAFF 2014 Post Mortem
This forum asks me to LOG ON every TIME! Even though I click the infernal Auto Log Box! How desperate for Ken and Carol......to be abducted by an aggressive and non-speaking TAXI driver... Clearly he has not passed the polite English test....or perhaps some one took the test for him! KEN and CAROL m...

Re: BIAFF 2014 Post Mortem
Here we go! I thought all the Hotels were great! Mine was a tad inconvenient...nevertheless the overall standard felt higher than average across the board. It is self evident that there will be some films, out of so many, which are good, well paced and entertaining and others that are truly pretenti...
