I liked both films, Darren. The "dead" cinema was sad but how great that some folk may be willing to have a go at restoring it. It was a shame you did not show us how you actually threaded the Kalee ... but I guess you would have run out of hands if you were also the only cameraman. There ...

Entering Competitions

Congratulations to Tynemouth Video Club for making the winning entry in this year's North v South Competition: Grant Aid . I'm told the movie had the feeling of David Peffer's humour. So the North win this year, well done. It was also striking that many of the films in this competition are not seen ...

The first time I attended an animation festival with scores of short movies - it was an exhausting experience. Each movie tried to take me on a narrative arc from A to B, grabbing my attention, manipulating my emotions ... so each one felt like a whole movie experience. It felt like watching a featu...

Some fascinating websites there folks - more please! I am sure the new webmaster will be keen to check them out. In passing ... here's a link you might want to keep handy for all those people who send you silly chain emails ... http://info.org.il/irrelevant/may02-smilepop-soapbox4.swf It sums up the...

Some of us have asked for more pictures and maybe video online. I'll do the "defensive thing" on behalf of the old management and point out there are around 3,800 images on the IAC website 20 movies and a couple of illustrative quicktime clips !!! But you guys are right: the point is that...

Wow - there is a LOT of material on YouTube about the film and a few other nice things kicking about on the net like an interview with Pete by an American indie producer Sujewa. On first look at the trailer you think " This guy is not one of us - he must have had a heck of a budget etc... "...

This is getting silly. Stephen : I had to delete your last message for the same reason as before. You linked to your webspace on blueyonder. Your computer is probably set up to automatically give the necessary username and password for that. No one else's is ! Billy - one large photo of Pam Anderson...

The storage issue for discs is matched in our household by the problem of storing MiniDVs in a way which does not mean piles of them crashing to the floor whenever I try to grab one from half-way down the stack. I bought some pricey plastic racks which screw to the wall either horizontally or vertic...

yup... we're getting there !!! Or rather we're not ! Stephen this image was demanding our Blue Yonder password info to see it. I guess that really means YOUR username and password. Since it did that as soon as anyone visited this thread - scaring the bejeepers out of folk - I have taken the liberty...

Regular readers know that one of our correspondents, Fraught", set up a YouTube group for IAC members to post movies. So far not many have chosen to add their work to this. Pop over to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OtgoRmXSwE Why don't more of you put your shorter movies onto this group? It c...

Since Jan and I have been using Dell computers very happily for ages - replacing them every 3 years or so. I want to put the other side of the argument. We have used Dell machines for our business and home use for over a decade. We tend to buy them in pairs (his and hers). We had one mechanical prob...

Another useful website is www.steadycam-pro.com which is NOT about the incredibly-expensive-professional device but a much cheaper device you can make yourself. You can also find on YouTube a whole set of movies about home-made camera dollies. With most such devices you also need to apply some smoot...

Ian - I think this may be the first time you have written positively about your club on the forum !

In private messages you have mentioned good and bad points about your club, but in public we tend to see the gripes more than the grins. Good on you for telling it like it is.

Cheers

I have had films much applauded by the audiance. only to be condemned by a judge as being to long. Result, No more competition entries from this film maker. NEVER let a judge's remarks do that to you! I speak as a frequent judge at all sorts of competitions. Judges only give you their view. If the ...

I am pretty sure you are right, Michael. Your AV maker wants to know the video image dimensions (720x576) in PAL if the material is in the usual 4x3 Academy ratio. Many AV workers use 1440x1080 which gives a high-resolution image but unless you plan to use the DVD on hi-def systems that is no use to...
