Re: THE BIAFF FESTIVAL 2017

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole weekend and the chance to catch up with film-making friends old and new. Of the Diamond awards my favourite was "Vermijo" closely followed by "Exploding Hearts", "Fridgemania" and "Well Done". Of the 5 star films shown on Sunday,...

Re: THE BIAFF FESTIVAL 2017

My list of favourites more or less matches Howards and I also very much enjoyed Fridgemania, Once Upon a Dream and The Interview. Vermijo is a wonderful achievement and I thought that the photography in this film was particularly good, both in the exterior and interior sequences. The whole event was...

Re: BIAFF 2017 Results

I couldn't agree more with Michael, Dave and Jill and having been round the proverbial competition block, both in film and photographic competitions, many times over the years I long ago developed the hide of a Rhinoceros when it comes to judges comments or markings. My philosophy with competitions ...

Re: BIAFF 2017 Results

I've now received my results from BIAFF. The XDL Films entry "Threads" (a new George and Doris story) has done well and received 4 stars with which we are happy, especially as the film is going to be shown on the Saturday. As for my personal entry it's got three stars which is disappointin...

Re: Happy Christmas and a Good New Year (when it comes)

I hope everyone had a happy Christmas and has a great New Year. In between numerous other things (and doing nothing much at all!) I'm working on a new documentary film for my BIAFF entry. I've been struggling with the script for the voice over, though I think I now have it all sorted out so am hopin...

Re: FUTURE - regions and festivals

I've been involved in this hobby since the 1960's and during all that time it seems we have been involved in ever changing technology with most of us usually playing catch up due either to financial constraints or reluctance to ditch perfectly serviceable equipment that has suddenly been deemed obso...

Re: FUTURE - regions and festivals

I would like to say a few words in defence of the IAC's AGM weekends. As well as attending BIAFF I have also supported the AGM weekends regularly since the 1980's and can say quite honestly that I have always had a thoroughly good time. There have always been films to see in the evenings, plus the M...

Re: BIAFF setup timelapse

From where I was sitting, just about halfway back, the sound was first class and, I thought, well balanced between the speakers with excellent setting of bass/treble so that music was punchy but not muffled and dialogue/voice over was crystal clear. Made me wish I'd had a film being shown that day!

Re: BIAFF setup timelapse

Err, I mentioned John's lighting, along with Michael Gough's presentation and Billy Ellwood's projection in my post on 27th April. I wish I'd said more about it but I think the photos on this thread show more eloquently than words just how good it all looked on the day.

Re: BIAFF at Harrogate

Perhaps we were all waiting to see who would go first Ken! Funnily enough I was also beginning to wonder if anyone was going to comment on what I thought was an excellent weekend with some superb films and a most enjoyable Sunday screening. I saw many of the same films as Ken on the Saturday and in ...

Re: BIAFF 2016 - WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR RESULTS?

I didn't have a new film of my own to enter in BIAFF but we did put in a short comedy from XDL Films. Sadly it only received two stars which is disappointing and isn't being shown at the festival. Ah well, at least audiences seem to like it and we are determined to produce something much better for ...

Re: BIAFF 2016 - who's entering?

I always try and attend BIAFF even if I don't have an entry myself because I like to see other peoples films and meet up with fellow film makers for a chat and to compare notes.
