Re: BIAFF 2014

It's great to have all the results on the website, and congratulations to all those who won top awards. I can't wait to see their films. I can't help but comment on the fact that there are just seven 5-star awards compared with fifty-seven 4-star awards. I realise that there would initially have bee...

Re: BIAFF 2014

Well, I opened my results envelope with bated breath today... my three films have each been awarded four stars. I can't help but feel a bit disappointed yet again not to have achieved five stars for at least one of them; the judges' comments are the best, the most positive, the most encouraging and ...

Re: BIAFF 2014

"A lot of pride got dented last year!" I was astonished and so disappointed last year that my film DAWN only achieved 3 stars, which felt like a real setback after achieving four star awards during the preceding four years. Many people had told me that it was the best film I'd ever made. S...

Re: YOUR BIAFF 2013 RESULTS

A belated thank-you to Ian Woodward for the comments and words of encouragement on this forum on 28th March. Another very enjoyable and interesting weekend at BIAFF; it's always a great pleasure to mingle with fellow enthusiasts and to view an incredibly wide variety of work. A couple of small niggl...

Re: Recommended movies on the web - UPDATED

I love a short called INSIDE OUT made by the Guard Brothers in 1999. It's a really charming, wordless film starring the lovely Lena Headey, and Simon McBurney.
I urge you to spare 7 minutes of your time to see it.

Re: YOUR BIAFF 2013 RESULTS

To put into context my earlier comments about my disappointing results this year... I've always wanted to have a film shown on Sunday at BIAFF so that everyone watches it, not just around 25% as on Saturday. I've never yet achieved this and hoped it would happen this year. Prior to submitting it to ...

Re: YOUR BIAFF 2013 RESULTS

Thanks Dave. Yes, I'll certainly be submitting my films to other competitions and festivals for a second, third etc. opinion, but I had always hoped to reach the heights at BIAFF. You mention the gap between 4 and 5 stars - I'd have been happy enough with 4 stars once again for either of my films - ...

Re: YOUR BIAFF 2013 RESULTS

Well now, Dave, you asked for our results and comments, so here goes. Having achieved 4-star awards for the last four consecutive years, I submitted two 20-minute films entitled DAWN and LIKE MOTHER. Everybody to whom I've shown DAWN has told me that it's the best film I've ever made and that it's v...

Re: YOUR BIAFF 2013 RESULTS

I'm really keen to learn how my two films DAWN and LIKE MOTHER have fared, but I haven't received my results yet. This is somewhat frustrating, having seen that others have already received theirs! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for five stars for DAWN, and four stars for LIKE MOTHER. Time will tell...

Re: AMPS 2011

I was fortunate enough to win two awards in AMPS 2010 for my film PERCEPTION: Joint best film by a new member of the Society; and Certificate of Merit. I was very grateful for Dave Watterson's extremely comprehensive scene-by-scene analysis of my film which was the most thorough critique of any film...

Re: DISCUSS BIAFF 2011 RESULTS

I wish something could be done about the Friday evening of BIAFF. Not everyone appreciates the AV Winners' show (myself included), and BIAFF is a FILM festival after all. An AV sequence isn't a film. I know several people who would appreciate an alternative being available. If the 1 minute film comp...

Re: How might BIAFF entries be judged?

I believe that Ken and Mike's suggestions provide the most satisfactory solution to the problem. The judges should have DVDs of all the entries to watch at home in their own time. I for one would be totally prepared to pay a higher entry fee to cover the cost of the blank DVDs needed to make the jud...

Re: DISCUSS BIAFF 2011 RESULTS

Yes, since Dave has brought up the subject of projection problems on Saturday, it was frustrating that in the first session in the Duchy room, both Phil Martin and I had to endure 30 seconds or so of our films (respectively A GENTLE WOMAN and CASH BACK) being projected in the wrong format until we d...

Re: DISCUSS BIAFF 2011 RESULTS

Well, there we have it. Another BIAFF has come and gone, and it was as ever a wonderful weekend to meet old friends and make new ones ... oh, and to watch a few movies too. I was pleased that my four-star film CASH BACK seemed to go down well on Saturday morning. I was keen to watch the five star an...
