For IAC judging the synopsis is kept by the Competition Manager but judging teams may ask for it if they wish. The Cotswold Final Judging works in a similar way - synopses are read on request. It can sometimes be useful with films in a foreign language where judges may get the gist of it through ima...

Just a word of warning about all this ... It is quite likely that some people who are not happy with their result will not be willing to say so in public. It sounds like being a poor sport. This means we cannot assume that the poll or the comments here represent every view. I am sure our competition...

Ian said: If you all did well then this thread would be as dead as a doodoo! Is a "doodoo" the excrement of a "dodo" ? It's a wonderfully evocative expression. As usual there is a lot of sense in what you say, Ian. Competitions and awards are not the real reason anyone sweats blo...

As one of our senior film makers, Peter, I doubt there is much any of us could suggest that you have not thought of yourself. Ian has a good point about "noddies" as the tv trade calls them: shots of the interviewer just nodding, smiling, looking interested or quizzical etc. These can be s...

Rather than me summarising it here ... take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YouTube Wikipedia explains the YouTube history and gives a lot of technical detail about how they handle files. It also points out that there was for some time a confusion with utube a site owned by people who make pi...

Stephen - for once ignore the sentiment in your "signature line" ! Safety is important here. The answer is that you must be strapped in. Many years ago Finchley Cine Society hired a low-loader lorry, put a car on it with the actors inside. The camera was on a tripod on the loader too. When...

And if you don't get on with Audacity try GoldWave which is shareware ... but all you get is a nag to buy after 100+ uses ... the second time I got the nag I thought "Damn! If I use it this much the author deserves his token fee and sent it."

I take your point, Ian. These forms are not yours to offer. The catch is that it is precisely the "legal blah" that we all want to get right if we have to use such forms. Chrisbitz has shown us one form. Can anyone else show us in the forum - or email me privately - with others? My notion ...

Do you have an example H&S form and release form you can post? That's a good idea Chrisbitz. Ian if you can send me privately a scan of the form/s or electronic copy if you have them as a Word document or something I think it might be useful to adapt them for use by any non-commercial film make...

Just to check - and forgive me for asking such a basic thing - how are you connecting to the computer? Firewire or USB? Editing software usually expects a Firewire connection. Then have you checked the capture settings ... Project Menu > Project Settings > Capture > A/V Inputs I use Premiere Pro 1.5...

Yes it would be helpful to give the IAC a higher public profile, but how can we do that within our means? IAC has one secretary/office organiser/wonderwoman called Pamela who works about half a week for us. Just processing the memberships and the admin for the committees takes up almost all her time...

Can I just inject a thought ... are we too worried about attracting young people? Should our target be people in their 50s? (a) young people do not like joining any club / society (b) their interests may change as they grow (c) their education and career moves often keep them from setting down roots...

The One-Liners - can you suggest more?

Those of you [surely all of you] who regularly read the main website will have noticed that the jokes are back. Many pages end with a little bit of humour which changes at random if you refresh the page or re-visit it later. It takes a surprisingly long time to assemble a decent collection of such o...
