It would be very interesting to have entries judged by two panels, amateur film makers and a panel of informed film/TV viewers who have no interest in how films are made but a lot of interest in their values. I suspect that the results would be very different. Anyone up for it? Ned C The best footb...

Re: IDEAS FOR CLUB MEETINGS

Re: IAC 75 ... Bradford, IMAX and all that

So how did it all go? I have heard privately that the selection of movies shown on the enormous screen looked great - maybe even a little too bright. Those who were there ... please tell us what we missed! Dave Romy Van Krieken was there, Dave. She sent me a message and told me that she had a wonde...

A movie may go against your deepest beliefs: political, moral, religious, ethical ... but you should try to judge them fairly. Movies about abortion, paedophilia, satanism, creationism, National Front, Young Communists etc come along once in a while and have to be assessed. [/i] Dave, I'm not sure ...

Re: Minimum Festival Rules

If we were to try to formulate one common core group of rules, what would they be? To kick off I suggest: 1. Who can enter (pro, amateur, student, age group, nationality etc.) 2. Maximum (and if necessary minimum) lengths of entries.... Any other essential rules? How about leader lengths? Style of ...

Re: Future BIAFFs - what (if anything) needs change?

What more ? Dave I've forgotten to tell you this : three Saturday cinemas instead of four. It also means less films, but now there were still some filmmakers with two films being screened and many filmmakers were absent. They were not there to receive their bronze, silver or even gold ! That's a pi...

Re: Future BIAFFs - what (if anything) needs change?

People have been very complimentary about BIAFF 2007 and have rightly noted various things which worked well. Now let us turn our thoughts to the future. Dave Firework Display ! I think that the Gala Show must be on Sunday. A grand finale with a magnificent firework display at the end of the festiv...

Re: Favorite films & why?

The most surprising aspect of amateur film making is the very low level of experimentation. Most amateur films look like B versions of what we see on TV. The feature films I revisit are those that play with my mind and demand a high level of attention and can subsequently be analysed for hours. her...
