Re: EPH HOROWITZ 1916 - 2012

Thanks for the links, Dave. I found the film a bit "tell us something we don't know" for a while, but once he got into the "What can you buy for a penny?" I was right there with him.

Re: It's content that counts (as if we didn't know)

Since the usual links to similar films include others on the subject I checked a few. Ugh. Some were simple recordings from a static camera. Nothing was so well made and clear as yours. Thanks Dave, I guess being "best in class" definitely helped this film's stats. I think these sorts of ...

It's content that counts (as if we didn't know)

In November 2010, I posted a short video on YouTube filmed by our then Chairman, Jeremy Holder, and edited by me. Apart from posting on the Digital Director forum for feedback, our own club website and maybe emailing to one or two others, the film has had no marketing whatsoever. In September 2011, ...

Re: HOW TO JOIN THIS FORUM

As a mod* of another video forum, I know just how frustrating this can be. We also have automatic registration but fortunately we do have not been subjected to an attack such as this (yet?). Anyway, let it be known that the work "behind the scenes" of admins and moderators, whilst rarely v...

Re: Viewing BIAFF videos

My understanding is that the IAC site does not host any of the videos. It simply provides links (via embedded players) to the hosting sites (usually Vimeo or YouTube). I thought ipads now play YouTube vids, or am I mistaken? I can't really see film makers stopping uploading to Vimeo (for quality) or...

Re: DVD drives

You don't say what operating system you are using, but I suspect that is irrelevant. I suspect that it is the firmware on your DVD drive which is corrupt and providing Windows with that erroneous name (and, of course, I'd be worried about other corruptions in the firmware). You can check this by goi...

Re: UNICA 2012 - success for Britain ...

That's excellent news. What a great line-up of films too (though I've not seen "Sparks" yet). I've loved "Jump" since I first saw it fail to win the Inter-Club Comp at Staines. In fact it didn't get a top three place (out of 11 films). On this occasion we had independent professi...

Re: First Days Filming - Early Test results

Surprisingly good, given the comparatively low resolution. As mentioned elsewhere the wispy hairs can cause a problem and the reflectiveness of "silver" hair causes others. I might have been tempted to have in in a hat to avoid this, but, of course that might not fit with the theme/charact...

Re: Audio Advice

Thanks again col.

I seem to recall Paul Strutt (Chairman at Norwich Movie Makers) found it was common that media players would not play avis. I'm not sure if he ever cracked it, but for SD, we're used to seeing them on DVD anyway so mpef2 would seem to be the way to go.

Re: Audio Advice

Thanks col, that's really useful info. We also use a BluRay Recorder for our HDMI signal - for similar reasonsto you - we use it for connecting up all our analogue devices (I say all, it's a JVC MiniDV/VHS player/recorder) You also mentioned the other device on our shopping list - a media player. Ou...

Audio Advice

We're thinking of upgrading our audio at Staines. Whilst I'm reliably informed that despite their age and tatty appearance our speakers sound pretty good, we've had occasional comments from visiting clubs that it could be better. We currently run a Roland Mixer amp through a pair of old Soby's. It m...

Re: Copyright and YouTube revisited

Tim - the IAC webmaster has amended the copyright statement to indicate that it is not all clear-cut: Thanks Dave (and Jan). I know its pedantic (I'm quite good at that) but it's best to be clear. Most of my videos end up on YouTube - not because I'm after blowing my ego by getting lots of hits, bu...

Re: another project this weekend

Nice one. I realise it's only a bit of fun, John, but it's always worth commenting. You've created a great stylistic trailer here. toally overblown music. Great titles and I lived the credit screen at the end. I only hope you don't have a holiday cottage in Wales or I suspect it'll be burned to a ci...

Re: Another You Tube question!

Otherwise consider playing the disc in a stand-alone (set-top) DVD player and feeding its output into your editing system to make a "new" film which you can export in a more familiar file type for uploading. Or download a free trial of Sony Vegas (or Vegas Movie Studio), put the DVD into ...
