Re: YOUR BIAFF 2013 RESULTS
Thank you for that, Peter. Very interesting. I agree with many of the points you make. I’d like to pick up on just a couple of points. You mention that you don’t like it when a judge says that a film is too long for a general audience. It irritates you because you think the judge really means that h...

Re: YOUR BIAFF 2013 RESULTS
So, without knowing whether this could apply to others, I would like to say 'thank you' to the judges who said what they thought about the film but didn't make comments without knowledge of the circumstances. If any of this rings a bell with anyone it's perhaps because I have vociferously campaigne...

Re: YOUR BIAFF 2013 RESULTS
Congratulations Michael. I can't wait to see your new film.
I got three stars for my "Parenting Styles". I was hoping for four, so a bit disappointed. But the comments were very full and clear and I could see why the judges thought it wasn't as good as I thought it was.

Thanks for the suggestion, Col. I'll try that and let you know how I get on.

Re: Convert NTSC to PAL
OK, a few more facts. The computer is dual core 3.2ghz with 4gig of ram & Nvidia GeForce 8400 512mhz ram. The software is Avid Studio. It is absolutely fine editing films which are entirely NTSC. What it cannot handle is a mixture of PAL and NTSC. It appears to drop frames to make the 30fps matc...

Re: Convert NTSC to PAL
Tom, I'm not sure what his editing software is, but he has tried putting the NTSC footage and PAL together, and the result was jerky NTSC footage.
Col, it is all HD.

Convert NTSC to PAL
Is it possible to convert video which has been taken at 30fps to 25fps? And if so, how? A friend has a little camcorder on which he's taken some lovely 30fps footage, but it seems he can't use it with his PAL footage from his main camcorder. I don't want him to throw it away!

Re: Award Presentations
I like watching the film maker go up to receive his or her certificate. I'm pleased to be able to put a face to the name of the maker of the wonderful film I have just watched. I have no problem with him or her being photographed. Indeed I like to look at them later if I can. My sadness is that most...

Re: the shooting ground
The great strength of your film is the cinematography. The visuals are a pleasure to watch. The framing is gorgeous. Every shot is absolutely steady. The music is just the job to enhance the sense that this is your feeling of being at one with things. The problem is that the viewer is an outsider an...

Re: Sony NEX VG20
Thanks, Geoff. Yes, I had read about the moire problem. I don't know if it applies to this model or the earlier one. Thank you Tom. No! I'm not looking for an entry level camcorder. I'm looking for a substitute for the Canon XM2. The one you describe wouldn't meet my needs: no viewfinder, no socket ...

Re: Sony NEX VG20
Oh! I see. Well, then I think the Panasonic will probably do me just fine. I think you were joking about Argos and Currys! I don't think they'd have a view finder, never mind a chip equivalent to the XM2 and so on. I realise it may sound the wrong way round to be going on about zoom...but wildlife i...

Re: Sony NEX VG20
Tom, I will read your articles. I usually only read about equipment when I want to buy it. OK. So a telephoto converter is not the way forward! I can't find a single camcorder with even 20x optical zoom (which has hd and a viewfinder and records to memory card for under £2000. I'm amazed there are l...

Re: Sony NEX VG20
Thank you Tom and Ned. I think it sounds like the Sony Nex VG20 is too advanced for me. Ned, it's very helpful of you to point out that it's more of a production camcorder. Thinking about it, I really want something easy to use (run and gun) but which I can also use for wildlife filming when I want ...

Re: Sony NEX VG20
Thanks for that, Col. Yes, it sounds pricey. I didn't realise the 70-200 wouldn't be good enough for wildlife. Looking at the 70-400 lens, it's huge. I'm reluctant to go down the DSLR route. I suppose another option would be something that doesn't itself have an exceptional zoom, but could take an a...
