Finding Actors
Hello all. For the past several months I've been trying to get my 30min short off the ground. So far I've written, re-written and re-re-written the script (I've lost count of how many times) and been making props. The biggest problem has been actors. I'm a member of an Am-Dram group (Pisces Players,...

Re: anyone using the 5DII
Hi all, been away a while, sorry. Really should check up on threads I've started  I'm inclined to agree that, although the footage is remarkable, the ergonomics are dire. Oh, yes and that Ti, or 500D as it's known here.....1080p at 20 fps? what? I mean what were the engineers smoking when they...

Re: DVD Menu Creator Software?
Have you tried DVDLabPro from Mediachance? It may be a bit pricey now with the falling pound, but as I recall it has one of the most detailed DVD authoring abilities this side of Apple's DVD Studio. I thinl they still have a 30 day trial available.

anyone using the 5DII
Just out of interest, is anyone here using the Canon 5DII to make movies? If so, what are your impressions of this cam, what does the footage look like, and how "graunchy" is the camera to use? I've no immediate plans to buy a new cam, but I'm interested in how the new cams perform. I may ...

Re: Anybody editing in HDV?
My old Dell lapie plays HD movies up to 35 Mbps, even from its own hard drive. It did have a 5400 rpm drive, now it has a 7200, but even the old one was good for 25-30 Mbps. Note this wasn't HDV, but "1080p D cinema" from Sorrensen Squeeze, the source footage being DVCProHD. The specs are ...

Re: 70x optical zoom ... aaaargh!
As I said it's designed to appeal to the moron majority, the types who are seduced by ludicrous "digital zoom" figures :x I'm sorry, but I really hoped manufactures would get byond such fripperies, but I guess not. Since such people are not the type to put said cam on a big Vinten, Sachtle...

Re: 70x optical zoom ... aaaargh!
Yes, and have you seen how much they cost  ? Trying to put that ratio on a consumer priced cam is asking for trouble, even with a micro-sized sensor. I'm sorry but it belongs with the megapixel-itis that afflicts so many consumer compact digicams, and even low-end DSLRs. It really saddens me ...

RE: Playing off laptops. My L/T is an old Dual Core Dell 9400. Originally the HD was 5400 RPM, and that played up to 30Mbps MPEG2 HD without much trouble off the drive, and will even play QT wrapped DVCPro50. Since then I've upgraded the drive to a 7200 device. The display is native 1920x1200 I rath...

I think if you're originating in HD (Pref NOT HDV) you should keep it in HD all the way. Remember, upscaling isn't adding real information, only guessing what might be there. I can understand upscaling SD DVDs if that's all that's available, but surly if you have something better, use it. I've even ...

BluRay players upscale DVD, and are getting silly-cheap. I've had some success converting my DVCProHD footage using Sorrensen 4.5 to various HD formats, including persuading the 1080p D-Theatre setting to keep the 4:2:2 colour space. This payed well using WMP 11 on my old Dual-core laptop, at a data...
