Re: Film Festival Time Limits

Remember, The Big Gig has no time limit on film lengths. Send your movies to our festival and it will hit the screen the way you intended the audience to view it. I think it's better to screen films as they are because it allows the audience to experience them properly. Films can be good, bad or ind...

Re: Projector Screens (again!)

Mono analogue sound has better ambience and bass response in terms of digital being crystal clear to the detriment of being able to hear bass. In Gone With The Wind terms, digital is 'toppy' and this has been much moaned about by vinyl users over CDs. Analogue is an actual sound signal where as digi...

A man goes to see his doctor to get a golf club removed from around his neck. The doctor duely assists in the removal of the club but feels the need to enquire, " I can't understand how you could manage to get a golf club wrapped round your neck!". The man replies, "Well doctor it's l...

Re: Projector Screens (again!)

The one thing that will make people move is ego! "Oh, you've got a 16:9, how quaint!" the neigbours will say. I'm sure 16:9 will will hang around with the die-hards same as energy saver light bulbs now that everyone is being forced to buy them just when LED is the new generation of lightin...

FILM SOUND

[Editor's note: this came up in a topic on replacement screens and seemed to me to be worth its own separate topic. I have edited this posting by Film for Thurso to concentrate on the sound matter. The original posting can be found in full in the topic: "Projector Screens again"] I just r...

Re: Projector Screens (again!)

I've been trying to get a cinema to part with one of those Lyon's Maid trays. (they don't come with an usherette- dang! or any ice creams- double dang!) I prefer the 2.35:1 or 2.66:1 and as Phillips and the llike have a working 2.35:1 telly it's kinda obvious where format is heading. 16:9 is an inbe...

Re: The Comedy Thread

Picture the scene, it is a small village pub. Two men are chatting away at the end of the bar nearest the open fire. To the right of the fire is a man seated at a table face down the worse for many many many nips, in fact it's all he been drinking the whole day until he crashed out. The men at the b...

Re: Copying commercial VHS tapes to PC

Ulead Videostudio 10 will allow copying from a vhs player through the scart or RCA connections via digital converter staight into the pc. Studio 11plus can see the copy protection but 10 doesn't. Go into the edit part of the software and click on the capture tab and it will then select the source au...

Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, 'I think I'll squeeze these dangly things here, and drink whatever comes out?' It was the same person who moments before said to his collegue, who was lying on the floor with a black eye and broken jaw, "NO, not that one!" If butter is mad...

Great Doctor Who Fanfilms On Youtube

Just thought I'd share this with you all. These guys are very good and I keep an eye on their latest stuff on youtube. Well worth watching and I can't help but notice their films are getting bigger and better in this last year. They are big Doctor Who fans. Expect to see more of them in the professi...

Re: Your First Projector

Great stuff, I've seen those little 9.5mm gadgets and often fancied adding one to my collection. They would also be handy for animation and making optical mattes. I was later given a CineRoyal which was silent and ran at 18fps without shutter or sprockets and was mains powered. It was also handy for...

Re: What would you like from Santa's sack?

I'm not asking Santa for much this year but it won't fit in his sack and I'll have to keep my mouth shut in case I don't get it!
