Re: LIGHTING
Well I rest my case, what a superb video, the best I have seen for ages. Now consider this..........what would the movie be like it it just showed the singer only with a static shot and maybe the odd cutaway? The answer...........mediocre Now in the "Judges and their credibility...." threa...

Re: DVD burners
An article on MPEG, Blu Ray, DVDs, down scaling, codecs etc is now in production. So far it has 1200 words, I am writing it more as a reference piece, including basic terminology and settings, how the coding takes place, pitfalls, how to get the best results, where to find more detailed instruction ...

Re: DESKTOP ICONS NUISANCE PROBLEM
Roy Whilst not specifically answering your question as for years I have hidden all desktop icons. Instead with the programs that I run frequently I have added them to the START menu, I find this a very convenient way of opening another program whilst having another running on the desktop. In XP clic...

Re: Adobe Premiere CS 5
Whilst we have many DV/DVD movies still being produced and shown, the editing software going back many generations still works very well. The problems only exist when upgrading your camcorder to a new AVCHD model in that a new set of problems have to be overcome. That said once you have CS5/Edius 5....

Re: Beware the dreaded Energy Saving Lamps!!!
I have only just spotted this thread I am in the trade and we generally advise that flourescents of all types are best used where they are not going to be switched on and off regulary, as a rough guide anything less than 10 minutes on and they can use considerably more than an old GLS, but soon you ...

Edius and Edius Neo
As you probably have read I use Edius Neo in preference to Premiere CS3 for my AVCHD editing. I have been using Neo on some DV files and when I had finished encoding it into MPEG2 ready to put onto a DVD I thought that I would try encoding the movie into a HD format. It upscaled the movie into 1920 ...

Hope this helps

Re: DVD burners
Being a Canopus/Grass Valley user I often frequent their website and forum to check for updates and developments. Procoder has been around in various forms for many years but unfortunately it is no longer being developed and whilst owning it is a bonus as there will be no more updates then it will i...

Re: 3D camcorders
Just pointing developments out, i'll continue to do so as I see anything that may be of interest. I agree with Tom on 3D, personally I cannot see any use I could have for 3D within our activity. Its the content of what we make that matters not some gimmick of an actor, bug or moveable object apparen...

Re: DVD burners
Branded Pioneer, LG etc. My original Pioneer is still going strong and still functioning the same as when installed but its role has been superseeded by the LG Blu Ray burner. If you are going to change drive then do remember that the current crop are SATA and not IDE Try running a cleaner in the ex...

Re: What baffled you when you began filming?
Ignoring my days with that celluloid stuff, I started videoing in 1992 and used crash editing on an SVHS VCR. Then I got into editing on a very slow PC with a Miro DC30 card and Premiere 4.5, yes Premiere does go back a long way. It was a nightmare of a time with PC crashes and rubbish support. Best...

Re: MIN DV TAPE / STOREAGE
Quite a lot of disks are going to be required to backup a good collection of MiniDV tapes. If memory serves me well I seem to remember that to store the AVI files captured from MiniDV tapes requires 1Gb for every 4 1/2 minutes of recorded video, in the "good old days" there was a Windows 9...

Re: POSITIVE IDEAS FOR 'Film & Video Maker' ARTICLES
Dave I agree with your last post up to a point, the article I have just sent to Garth is not technical but practical. It is about the pros and cons of using a DSLR for video, the use of one for actually making a movie, what to look for and what to consider. Tom's contributions are very good and a ve...

Re: POSITIVE IDEAS FOR 'Film & Video Maker' ARTICLES
Tom There are many Pros and Cons about using a DSLR for DH video, they are certainly not point and shoot, you really need to use the manual contols. A specifically designed Camcorder that records 18Meg stills, with full manual control on both video and stills, now that would be some nice toy to have...
