Re: How can we best present info about the IAC video library

also a link back to the home site from the forum would be good...or is it a case i just can't find it :? Dave will correct me if I'm wrong, but I suspect the software used for the forum doesn't allow a link to another site in the static information we see at the top of the page, only in a "sti...

Re: WHAT ARE YOUR YOUTUBE / VIMEO ETC NAMES?

Looking good, Dave. Perhaps I'll have to be a bit more choosey as to what I put on my channel though as most of the material I post would not advertise the IAC very well - yet I still want to post it (for example footage of the last Remembrance Day which many locals have been grateful for even thoug...

Re: WHAT ARE YOUR YOUTUBE / VIMEO ETC NAMES?

Of course I don't really hate YouTube. I wrote the word "hate" between quotation marks ... And yes, "fair play" is also important in life. It's something typically English. I didn't really imagine you hated YouTube, Willy, I was just playing along with you. Having said that, it'...

Re: WHAT ARE YOUR YOUTUBE / VIMEO ETC NAMES?

Willy, you clearly feel let down that this person asked you to work on his film for BIAFF, but then didn't enter it into any festivals - that's fair enough. But surely it's no reason to hate YouTube. Perhaps after it was completed he agreed with your original feeling - that the film wasn't very good...

Re: First Days Filming - Early Test results

Sorry, Jim. For some reason I'd assumed that you'd moved on from the green screen/newsroom test footage and this was a different video which I was judging as an entity in its own right. These will make fine supplementary footage - even wuth the light rays as they are. Incidentally, I wasn't suggesti...

Re: Facebook Page

Yes - it appeared! First one I've seen from you though, I think. Thanks for confirming, Mike. That makes sense. I don't think I've posted anything else since you "befriended" me. Does this mean you're seeing all the dozy messages I put up for my family to see? Oh dear! Don't worry, I have...

Re: Facebook Page

Not happening here Tim ... I think you can determine who sees which of your messages when posting them - 'private/family friends/public' - something like that anyway. Probably not happening because I rarely post on my own page, though I sometimes comment (basically because even my ego isn't big eno...

Facebook Page

Following the lead of one or two other clubs, I've set up a Facebook page for Staines Video Makers. Whilst personal pages tend to be full of all sorts of rubbish, I can see some genuine benefits of using this for clubs and businesses. If you "Like" a Facebook page, your own page receives a...

Re: First Days Filming - Early Test results

Hi Jim, As one of the seven people who has listened to all of your podcasts (and at between 1hr 30 and 2hrs 15 each, that's quite an investment of my time, even if I did do it whilst driving) I feel entitled to be as critical as I wish! I think you've already highlighted some fo te problems in your ...

Re: HD Image distortion when projected.

Quite agree Michael for a delivery format, but there are occasions when one doesn't want to be burning a BluRay. For example, this coming Friday at Staines (may I thank you publicly for the splendid show/talk/discussion you gave us last week!), we're going to be playing around with some Chroma Key (...

(I appreciate I'm preaching to the converted here but ...) He may just be lucky and find someone who is interested in this as a project. If not I hope he's prepared to make a hefty donation either to the members concerned or to the club. He needs to remember he's asking someone or some people to giv...

That may be true for you retired types, but for those of us who still have a day job, taking time out to make a film IS a holiday.

Re: is this the sign of the times

I think this has been commented on before, Roy, so it's definitely a sign of the times. However I'm not sure this relates to video clubs struggling. How many of the people who waved camcorders about in the past belonged to clubs? Very few! I suspect the percentage of camcorder users who actually bot...

Re: Sepia settings.

Movies of the silent era were filmed on black and white stock but sometimes tinted for release. There are also some early examples where individual frames were hand coloured. I knew about the hand coloured, but not the tinting - I always thought that was just an aging process. Thanks for the correc...

Re: Sepia settings.

As an aside, when I did the post production on a silent film we made at Staines (pre-dating "The Artist" by a good 12 months) I looked at a lot of clips on YouTube to try to get an authentic look. The first thing that struk me is that, contrary to the popular images, old film does not appe...
