Re: FVM articles

Thanks for your thoughts Ken. I'm not saying anyone's complained, more saying I don't get feedback on my articles (or very little) so don't know if I'm hitting the mark or talking nonsense. But the mag is a good mix of filmmakers and kit-droolers, and in reality we all get along fine.

FVM articles

In reality every article in FVM is a labour or love. We here all know the feeling of facing a blank sheet of paper and wondering what to write about, how to structure the article, who to aim it at, what photos to include, what theme to adopt. So I do read FVM knowing that nobody's getting paid, they...

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

Ned C - the Wansfell College training weekends were organised by the then IAC training officer Eric Granshaw. They were indeed good days, and on more than one occasion Dave Blundell, David Jackson and I stood shoulder to shoulder as the designated trainers. They started in 2001 and finished in 2008,...

Re: Peculiar Camera Mounts

I like your enthusiasm for the thought that IAC members will gather here to read articles Jameela, but I fear the reality is that few of them bother to visit. The statistics for the site show how tiny the traffic density is, and I suspect that getting involved with the 'inter-web' is beyond a lot of...

Re: BIAFF ONLINE ...

Yup, it all happened and we saw a great number of gob-smackingly good films online. I got so absorbed sitting there in front of my laptop that my watch kept buzzing me, insisting I get up off my far arse and do ten semi-squat-eagle star jumps on the spot. There really is wide gap from 4* to 5*. The ...

And how could I forget? The clickable link - to the eBay seller with the perfect piece of kit, to the YouTube 'how to' demo, to the wonderful short you've just seen on Vimeo.
Easy-peasy on the PDF magazine, hassle on the printed page.

Re: A Great Read

I know Gary the editor puts a huge amount of time into the compilation of AMM and it shows. The downloadable PDF format seems made in heaven for such a publication, and you can so easily read it on multiple devices, have the text as large as you like and zoom into the pictures with ease, seeing deta...

Re: Manifesto for Change

The search facility on this forum is pretty comprehensive Jameela, and it's quite enlightening to note that that I've put up 800+ posts whereas John Howden (chairman) and Simon Sumner (vice chairman and youth liaison officer) don't appear to have posted at all. This doesn't necessarily mean they're ...

I can comment on Geoff's excellent 5* film Treble Clef. We three judges loved it, and I'd like to tell you why. Judges’ Comments Title: Treble Clef Number: 17134 Award: Five Star What an excellent film Treble Clef is! It’s excellent in a huge number of cinematic disciplines, not the least of which i...

Re: COVID-19

If only your post had been a letter to the editor of FVM, Jill, the FVM that will hopefully drop through our letter boxes next week. If few people read FVM these days, even fewer read these forums.
But nevertheless you bring tidings of great joy, and that's a Good Thing.

Re: COVID-19

Last night I did another Tom-show for Finchley's FFM, this time using Zoom. I spent a couple of hours in preparation, opened the laptop, donned the headset and was ready to go. One or two technical niggles, but no surprise really. This contrasts with my talk to the same club 14 months ago, when on t...

Re: COVID-19

Last night (Friday 17 April) FFM (the Finchley Gang) held a Zoom evening entitled 'So you'd like to be a Judge?' it went down pretty well I thought. So, judging is a clash between head and heart, as there was certainly no outright winner. In fact I'm pretty sure every film was nominated for 'best fi...

Re: Picasa replacement for windows 10

I agree, and I've long been a user and lover of Picasa and I use it all the time. I bet a Google search will still find a website that has it for download (though I haven't looked and of course it won't be updated by Google any more). Other than that there are quite a few such free editing programs ...

FVM February 2020

Is there a shortage of pictures in the world? Am I alone in thinking that the cover of this current issue of FVM (February 2020) is not only unnecessary (it's repeated on page 17 for goodness sake) but is also not high enough quality to withstand the editor's crop. It's just not sharp, and with just...

Re: FILM & VIDEO MAKER MAGAZINE

I'm with Tim, I'd vote for exactly the opposite..ie. I'd have even bigger photos. Go blindfolded up to the magazine section in your local supermarket and pick up any magazine you like. Remove blindfold. Flip pages. Huge photos. Words that seep into them. Colours and fonts that show commercial imagin...
