Re: BIAFF 2018

Good points, good people. Here's a thought, how about we level the financial playing field? If the IAC isn't going to repay everything, how about the judges all get reimbursed for their travel expenses, but all pay for their (judging) hotel accommodation. It has now cost everyone the same. I joke; I...

Re: BIAFF 2018

John, you raise good points about BIAFF judges all working on the same playing field, and that this playing field could be improved by the acquisition of a set of decent sized TVs complete with sound bars. All the TVs will accept usb sticks so that films submitted online would have to be downloaded ...

Re: BIAFF 2018

A really interesting thread we have here and a lot of good points aired. I too am suitably flabbergasted but the amount of work that goes into making BIAFF the show that it is, and more than flabbergasted at the blood, sweat, tears and hours that David Newman puts into it. Money. I really feel its t...

Re: MP3 to CD-R

Thank John, but I'm not making an audio CD, I'm making a data CD that contains lots of consecutive mp3 files. I'd like these to play as one long continuous track yet still give me the option to jump forward or backward to different tracks. This doesn't seem to be possible.

Re: MP3 to CD-R

Relax, I've sorted it. My Audacity is v 1.2.3 so quite old, but it does enable you to add multiple chapter points. Now I just need to find out how to delete the gaps between the tracks in my Nero burning program.

MP3 to CD-R

Hi team. I want to burn a 3 hour MP3 voice recording to CD. It's a 320 mb file so fits onto a CD just fine, but obviously it's too long to burn as an audio CD. The mp3 file I've burnt to CD plays in my car and DVD player, but is there some way I can add 'chapter points' to the recording? I've got Au...

No, no subtle differences at all. Just great minds thinking alike :)

Drones, and the best one under £1k is?

Hi team, I've been asked by a filmmaker for 'the best drone under £1k out there'. This is not an area of expertise that I have under my belt, so herewith my cry for advice, YouTube videos, reviews.

Re: Mic into PC for V/O

Another way is to simply record into a digital audio recorder and import that wav or MP3 file, that way you don't have to screen out the sound of the PC's fans. If you need to watch the film while you're doing your v/o you can at least be some way from the noisy pc itself.

Re: 80TH Birthday Prezzy ___ a Drone!

Did you get this avi /30 FPS situation sorted? Edius 7 should happily accept all the footage onto a 1920 x 1080 timeline for editing, and when complete give you a drop-down menu as long as your arm for output formats.

Re: Better Film Sound

Very good point you make about using headphones for the critical analysis of the audio track. So many films I've seen have had the audio sound f/x only on one channel, yet the filmmaker has been completely unaware of the this.

XLR mics into my DSLR

My digital stills camera shoots wonderful movies as they all do these days, but the mic-in is the standard tiny ⅛'' stereo socket. I'd like to plug in my XLR mics, radio and shotgun, but I don't really want to use a bulky Beechtek box as I did with my VX2000 years ago. So what are my options? Ideall...

Re: Better Film Sound

I'm a believer in monitoring the audio mix from loudspeakers rather than headphones, finding that the intimacy of headphone listening can make me have the background sounds set too high Vs the dialogue. So I use loudspeakers on my timeline and for quick tests output a section of the timeline as a sh...

Re: DVD storage

And of course there's eBay. The site teems with disc cases and competition ensures the very best prices. The fragility of the slimline cases means that a few at the outer edges get damaged, but suppliers have always been happy to replace however many I say have been broken.

Re: TURN TURN TURN

To come back to the first point raised .. yes, commencing a video shoot using the phone in portrait mode means however you twist and turn the phone from that point on the orientation stays in portrait mode. It allows you to Dutch tilt to extremes without the aspect ratio changing.
