Converting 30 FPS to 25

Hi team. My sweet little SJ5k action cam records full HD at 30 (probably 29.97) fps. So far so good, and this plays back in camera through my TV or my phone or laptop just fine. But my Edius 6.5 editing program doesn't have a 30 fps editing preset, all the options are 25 fps. The problem with this i...

Re: adobe premiere capture device

I remember hearing that you could 'fry' the FireWire sockets by connecting the DV deck to a computer while they were both turned on, and by the sound of it this is what's happened to you. A pretty poor design that allowed this, I'll give you.

Re: IEEE 1394a problem

Just to clarify John, are you saying that when you connect your mini DV camcorders via FireWire and open Edius 6.5's capture program the camcorder isn't recognised, doesn't show up, or that it is recognised but you can't capture the footage? Has anything changed in your edit program since it last wo...

Public liability insurance

Our new moviemaking meetup club has yet to become affiliated to the IAC. We wondered if there was a deal to be had for public liability insurance through the IAC if we join up.

Re: 8mm film scanners

How strange, because Cathy's link (above) takes you straight to the page where the WS centre says all their tele-cine equipment is up for sale.

Hard disk drive failure

It had to happen of course, but I've just had my first HDD failure. It's over 10 years old and has been used a lot , so I can't complain. Western Digital. 500gb. Made 21 Jan 2008 in Thailand, fitted by DVC into my Edius pc that I bought Feb 2008. The other two drives in the pc look to be just fine. ...

Re: 8mm film scanners

I've had a look at the Kaiser copy box Roy and ouch, it seems a lot of money for what it is. That £200 will get you some really good professional transfers of some of your films. The WS Centre also gives dubious advice about eliminating hot spots and flicker, and in reality the Kaiser is introducing...

Re: 8mm film scanners

Lass Palmas 25 years ago. Good to see, Roy. Looked a bit crowded on the roads even back then. You've put a lot of work into new titles, cleaning the film and so on. Technically yes, there's a hot spot, but projectors were normally set up that way to make the film seen brighter. Correctable on most p...

Re: 8mm film scanners

There are a lot of YouTube videos extolling the virtues and otherwise of Wolverine film scanners. I imagine they're designed to run on 120v and they're slow; a little 50' reel will take ½ hr to digitise and still need timeline editing to get the speed right. They can only transfer mute footage. They...

Film scanners? You want to digitise your side collection or you want to transfer cine film to DVD/BD?

Re: super 8 bauer projector repairs

You don't say what your new (secondhand) camcorder is, but your aspect ratio problem is easily resolved, and I do it this way all the time. Reshoot the 4:3 image in the camcorder's 16:9 mode so that you end up with black bars left and right of the uncropped 4:3 image. Mask these in post to make them...

Re: super 8 bauer projector repairs

Another beauty of the GS1200 Roy is the fine speed control. You can very accurately set it to an electronically controlled 16⅔ FPS to completely eliminate flicker, and the footage can then be speeded up by 8% on the timeline. Sorted.

Re: super 8 bauer projector repairs

I too have a 34 year old GS 1200 which works well I'm pleased to say. My film transfers are done using a Schneider f/1.1 lens rather than the supplied Elmo f/1.0 zoom. What's good is that the 4 motor GS only relies on one simple drive belt, and they're easy to get hold of. Is there no signal from yo...

Re: super 8 bauer projector repairs

Any clues as to what the fault is with your projector? If it's a matter of perished drive belts, then eBay is an excellent place to search. Same with lamps etc. You may even find a suitable projector for sale that will do all you want and save you the hassle of getting yours repaired, assuming you h...
