Re: Mini-DV into Edius Pro 7

You're playing the Mini DV tape in your deck or camcorder and they play ok? I ask because tapes recorded in the LP mode won't play back properly in a lot of DV decks. You've got the playback machine connected to the computer via FireWire? You've been able to import DV footage onto Edius before and h...

Re: FVM Editor

Up until 25th Jan 2019 you send copy to Garth as normal. After that date, and for all subsequent issues of the mag, send your copy to Mike:

Re: 8mm film scanners

The MWA scans do get good reviews. Which firm do you use (Images for Life?), and how good is the sound quality from striped footage, do you know?

More.

Are the Powers that Be reading this forum?
Surely with only one issue to go (March/April - the Jan/Feb FVM has now been completed apart from printing and distribution), arrangements should be being made to sort out and organise a replacement system. Maybe it's being done. I hope so.

Re: FVM Editor

And us regular contributors. Where do we send our next copy? Should we even be bothering to research, photograph and write another article? What's with this deathly silence?

Re: FVM Editor

I've been asked to photograph all the IAC's merchandise with a view to updating the tired and very outdated looking ads. When I mentioned the costs involved it all went strangely quiet as the mag's committee debated the situation.

Re: FVM Editor

Well, I had an informative chat on the phone with Garth last night and things have become a lot clearer. We chatted about the changes he's brought about to FVM over the years, and I complimented him on every one, feeling that our mag has gone from strength to strength under his control. I don't envy...

Re: FVM Editor

I too am upset at Garth's departure and I'd really like to know more. Did he resign, did he want to go, has he had enough, was he pushed, does he charge to much, is he being adversely criticised, does he do a good job? A big yes to the latter. The mag has never looked so good. Its full glossy colour...

Re: 8mm film scanners

I never needed a slice roller, I simply used a fingernail.

As regards the guarantee, I'd still suggest that the instability of the resultant image makes the device unfit for propose.

Re: 8mm film scanners

At £360 (and considerably more on Amazon) this is not a cheap and cheerful film scanner by any means, and should certainly not be giving you less than very acceptable results. As such I feel that you may have a faulty one, and it may well be worth contacting the seller to see if it can be exchanged ...

Re: Alter camera settings or modify in post

I always go for getting the video and audio settings right at the time of shooting, leaving post production as a 'correction' tool. This gives me the very best quality footage my cameras can deliver. But these days colourists like to work with flat, bland footage, enabling them to offer the director...

Re: hood for LCD screen

I reviewed the 5'' Lilliput LCD monitor back in the August 2012 issue of FVM. I use it to this day, and it's proved its reliability over the last 6 years. The 800 x 480 resolution can seem a bit crude these days, but at least the low pixel count allows the screen to go very bright, so useful in dayl...

Re: Converting 30 FPS to 25

Thanks Richard. The same link was posted in the NLE thread. But Premiere Elements 15 has been proved to handle the 29.97 fps footage beautifully, whereas my far more expensive (and a good deal older) Edius 6.5 made a botch of it. As they say, 'edit anything', but not without noticeable artifacts.

Re: Converting 30 FPS to 25

Just to say for those that aren't followers, but the IAC NLE email round robin has continued this thread in a very interesting way. Worth joining if you haven't.
