Re: FVM Editor
I've been asked to photograph all the IAC's merchandise with a view to updating the tired and very outdated looking ads. When I mentioned the costs involved it all went strangely quiet as the mag's committee debated the situation.

Re: FVM Editor
Well, I had an informative chat on the phone with Garth last night and things have become a lot clearer. We chatted about the changes he's brought about to FVM over the years, and I complimented him on every one, feeling that our mag has gone from strength to strength under his control. I don't envy...

Re: FVM Editor
I too am upset at Garth's departure and I'd really like to know more. Did he resign, did he want to go, has he had enough, was he pushed, does he charge to much, is he being adversely criticised, does he do a good job? A big yes to the latter. The mag has never looked so good. Its full glossy colour...

Re: 8mm film scanners
I never needed a slice roller, I simply used a fingernail.
As regards the guarantee, I'd still suggest that the instability of the resultant image makes the device unfit for propose.

Re: 8mm film scanners
At £360 (and considerably more on Amazon) this is not a cheap and cheerful film scanner by any means, and should certainly not be giving you less than very acceptable results. As such I feel that you may have a faulty one, and it may well be worth contacting the seller to see if it can be exchanged ...

Re: Alter camera settings or modify in post
I always go for getting the video and audio settings right at the time of shooting, leaving post production as a 'correction' tool. This gives me the very best quality footage my cameras can deliver. But these days colourists like to work with flat, bland footage, enabling them to offer the director...

Re: hood for LCD screen
I reviewed the 5'' Lilliput LCD monitor back in the August 2012 issue of FVM. I use it to this day, and it's proved its reliability over the last 6 years. The 800 x 480 resolution can seem a bit crude these days, but at least the low pixel count allows the screen to go very bright, so useful in dayl...

Re: Converting 30 FPS to 25
Thanks Richard. The same link was posted in the NLE thread. But Premiere Elements 15 has been proved to handle the 29.97 fps footage beautifully, whereas my far more expensive (and a good deal older) Edius 6.5 made a botch of it. As they say, 'edit anything', but not without noticeable artifacts.

Just to say for those that aren't followers, but the IAC NLE email round robin has continued this thread in a very interesting way. Worth joining if you haven't.

Re: Canon HV30 out putting NTSC
A check of all the settings is in order Peter. The HV30 is shooting HDV (1440 x 1080) and should be at 25fps. It's being downconverted in camera to SD (720 x 576) in the Z5 and FireWire takes it into your PC. Check that the Z5 settings are correct. Your Premiere 6.5 project settings should match thi...

Converting 30 FPS to 25
Hi team. My sweet little SJ5k action cam records full HD at 30 (probably 29.97) fps. So far so good, and this plays back in camera through my TV or my phone or laptop just fine. But my Edius 6.5 editing program doesn't have a 30 fps editing preset, all the options are 25 fps. The problem with this i...

Re: adobe premiere capture device
I remember hearing that you could 'fry' the FireWire sockets by connecting the DV deck to a computer while they were both turned on, and by the sound of it this is what's happened to you. A pretty poor design that allowed this, I'll give you.

Re: IEEE 1394a problem
Just to clarify John, are you saying that when you connect your mini DV camcorders via FireWire and open Edius 6.5's capture program the camcorder isn't recognised, doesn't show up, or that it is recognised but you can't capture the footage? Has anything changed in your edit program since it last wo...

Public liability insurance
Our new moviemaking meetup club has yet to become affiliated to the IAC. We wondered if there was a deal to be had for public liability insurance through the IAC if we join up.
