Re: Website providers

The key to generating any interest is contantly updating Facebook (or indeed any social media). A static Facebook site will never be found. Websites, from a club point of view, are probably more useful for comparatively static information.

In the "User Videos" section.

It's very low volume nowadays, and we'd welcome someone with your experience, Ned - or indeed anything else here.

Re: Jameela

As has been mentioned by others before, other festivals you mention still require someone to select what is shown and on that basis your compromise solution is no worse than them. So, what you're saying, effectively is don't publish (even to the makers?) the star rating of anything which wouldn't qu...

Re: Sharing the movie experience

I, too, have been very disappointed by the lack of use of that section, Ned. I think part of the problem may be that some members might be concerned about having their work critcised in public and for that reason every post has to be approved before publication. Whilst well-intentioned, that causes t...

Re: Jameela

So what do you propose? Again I ask the question, 250 films submitted, time to show 100. How do you decide what gets shown? We can't simply accept the first 100 films submitted as then it becomes a mad rush to the bottom to be one of the first to submit (and I suspect it will be the least artistic p...

Re: Jameela

Could we not abolish the: One, Two and Three star awards, but offer these filmmakers the option to withdraw their work and improve it in line with the feedback given, then re-enter their film for the following festival, otherwise it will only be selected for viewing in the current festival if time ...

Re: Jameela

I fear we're going around in circles but, just to clarify, I think you are saying that if we have two films that are delivering the same message and to which the makers are equally committed, where one film is concise, clear in its delivery, beautifully photographed with clean sound, well edited, en...

Re: BIAFF 2020 RESULTS

I look forward to seeing Treble Clef, Tom, and it sounds as though the lady I tipped for best actor award, who eventually won it, didn't have it all plain sailing. I shouldn't be surprised: acting in Geoff's films rarely leaves the audience wanting (though it might drive the director crazy from time...

Re: Jameela

The principle remains the same today, though video and the internet reduce the need for a city, we still need the community... But the commercial world has taken over and made it into an industry. Big money controls what is now produced and how it is edited. So where is the voice of truly free Poet...

Re: Jameela

Sorry Tim, but I can't compromise on the word 'hobby'. To an outsider 'hobby' and 'vocation' may look the same, both can involve considerable time and expense, but the crucial difference is that of intention. A hobby is optional, a vocation is the purpose of one's life. That's clearly put. I unders...

Re: Jameela

Blimey! Looks like lockdown is getting to everyone. Jameela, I for one will be sorry to see you go. We don't always see eye to eye, but I like to think we've at least had a civil debate. One word of advice, if I may, from personal experience. I've been a staunch defender of the word "amateur" to des...

Re: A sound problem resolved

...my sound guru tells me to always monitor at set up And I bet he suggests monitor though closed back headphones. I invested a couple of years back in a pair of Sony HD25s - having read they are common in the industry for ENG. They are very close fitting and superb at eliminating external noise. T...

Re: A sound problem resolved

Thanks Ned,

A lesson to us all. But yet again, effectively "turn it off (in this case for long enough for any residual current to disperse) and turn it on again". How often that works.

Glad you saved yourself $400, Ned and can start filming agin unencumbered by extra hardware.

Re: BIAFF 2020 RESULTS

I would hope/expect to be there, even if only driving up for the Sunday (though in many ways I enjoy the Saturday more).
