Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

I'm delighted you've responded Jameela, and enterd into the spirit of the discussion. As I said in the follow up to my first post, there may be a perception issue here so we can at least agree on that. Not wishing to put you on the spot (and indeed anyone can join in) let's deal with what I see as f...

Re: Exterior Filming in the 'North' this Summer

Most people seem to like engaging with social media, but it is not for me. I can totally understand not wishing to engage with social media, but if that's where the "new generation" is, that's likey to be the most productive sea in which to fish. It seems to suit what is popular, not that which is ...

Re: Exterior Filming in the 'North' this Summer

John, if by "new generation" we are talking about younger people, I think you'll find most under about 35 now shun Facebook and everything is Instagram (at least this is what I'm told by the next generation in my extended family who range in age from 14 to 32). However Facebook seem sto work well fo...

Re: Mermaid & mini Mermaid

Hmmmmm. I wonder what would happen if someone from NW Region (or East Anglia, come to that) submitted a couple of films, stating they were the region's entry.

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

Of course, one of the take-away's from the above is that if Jameela thinks we need to do X, Y and Z and we are already doing X, most of Y and some of Z then we do have a very real problem of getting across to people what the IAC does and stands for.

Re: Mermaid & mini Mermaid

The Mermaid ad Mini Mermaid competition is between regions. Each region enters one film in each category to represent them. The films should be "light hearted and enjoyable" - designed to entertain the audience at the AGM. The Mini Mermaid is for films up to 60 seconds in length. It is entirely up t...

Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

I feel compelled to respond to Jameela's article about suggestions for reform. I wholeheartedly agree that in order to survive we must continue to look to change, but I wonder if Jameela belongs to the same IAC that I do. 1. Ground Rules: (No insults). Any organisation that has to have a clear and v...

Your resourcefulness astounds, Willy. And your knowledge of UK & UK history puts me to shame.

I will add to that a nugget of information I gleaned many years ago from a computer expert - when using two backup drives DO NOT purchase identical make and model drives.
Excellent advice indeed.

Re: Hard disk drive failure

Michael, I think we are talking about the reliability of individual drives. There is no difference between internal and external drives***. All my drives started life as internal to my PC but the majority now reside on a shelf and contain my archives. When archiving to them, or backing up current pr...

Re: Hard disk drive failure

I remember worrying when i saw the MTBR for SSDs, but so far, with several schools running SSDs for 3+ years, I've yet to have a failure. My own PC (3+years old - although I still think of it as new) is using an SSD for Windows + Application (not just several video editing and related applications, ...

Re: working in 9:16 from DSLR

Does she want to produce a video which is 9:16 or 16:9? Premiere will have no problem rotating the image if the latter (but she will have to decide whether to zoom in and lose definition or how she is going to fill the blank space around the 9:16 image. If the former, just set up the sequence as 108...

Re: Asus monitors

Truly bizarre, Roy, but at leat it gets you to where you need to be (and rushing to change the volume might give you exercise).
PS Thanks for the compliment - I'm know there are many that would disagree, but I'll gladly take that as my epitaph :)

Re: FVM MAGAZINE - FEBRUARY 2019

I don't know about Jon, but I liked it because (a) it gave the impression the average age of an IAC member was younger than it actually is and (b) it made me feel my camcorder is much younger than it actually is. :D
