Re: The Cloud - discuss?

Actually I watched it through twise, and I did enjoy it, but as I said the emotional build-up was not quite right... well that is what I felt. And I'm perfectly OK with that. You comment caused me to question it - which is good - and decide I was happy with it how it is - which is equally good :) T...

Re: To Think Differently

Whilst I agree with much of what Ned says, I can see why you would combine your gender reassignment journey with your spiritual one in the context of the film. I have attempted to watch the film twice before. Previously I'd only made it to a little over half way so this time I was rather delighted t...

Re: The Cloud - discuss?

Thanks for wtaching and for your comments, Jameela. For me the climax is clear - Danny chasing Eddie into the blackmailer's house, leaving the audience guessing as to whether he prevents the attack. Clearly we failed if that's not what you got from it. I'd not sure what you mean about introducing th...

Where is everyone else; we don't bite and love to discuss films so post a link here and many of us are housebound and this is much more fun than most other things.

Re: The Cloud - discuss?

Thanks Ned. I agree about the following the blackmailer scene (not the accountant - that's what threw me). It's far too cartoony. As for the newpaper - again, I agree, but Danny needs to discover they were not responsible for the death somehow so it was either that or a radio report. I'd do it diffe...

Re: The Cloud - discuss?

Thanks Ned. It's very intresteing that you see the opening as a weakness. Our intention was to grab the viewer's attention immediately with the opening line (even the word "Murder") and the accompanying possibly violent footage. The whole idea behind the second scene (the talking head) clearly faile...

The Cloud - discuss?

Just trying to maintain inertia, here's a film made six years ago. It didn't do particularly well at BIAFF, but I think the star rating it received is perfectly valid as were the comments received. I know what I think about it - how about you?!

I look for additional films for review here and the extension of the discussion.
So do I. this is one way in which I learn so much about telling a story and film making in general.

Just for fun, I'll pop one up made a few years back.

Re: For discussion

True, but if I represented an award giving organisation, the "Star Rating" would reflect my organisation's views As far as I'm aware the IAC has no views regarding content so long as it is legal. Any self respecting judge doesn't even need to set their personal views aside as the message/theme is n...

Re: For discussion

Regarding star rating... I would say it depends entirely upon viewpoint. I also think this film does highlight that a film's rating says more about the viewpoint of the Judges, than it does about what is being judged! Hope that helps, Jameela A panel's personal preferences/prejudices don't (or shou...

Re: Jameela

The words 'censored' and 'sadistic' are appropriate to my strong feelings in the above contexts. That's as maybe, but they are inaccurate. "Not published " is not the same as censored and you have no way of knowing whether any panel has ever experienced satisfaction in awarding two stars to a film ...

Re: For discussion

Thanks for the explanations, Ned. I'd certainly intrepreted Moses as the compliant intermediary and Sheila as a temptation but Brick's presence wasn't quite so clear to me. Whilst the main purpose of Sheila was clear, I didn't get the impression that he was in the slightest tempted and I took from i...

Re: For discussion

My reaction on first viewing was that this falls somewhere between a comedy and an honest satirical look at the start of cultish religions. Of course, there is no reason why something cannot be both. It really needs more gags to qualify as a comedy, but I was relieved you did not fall back on lazy s...

Re: Website providers

The key to generating any interest is contantly updating Facebook (or indeed any social media). A static Facebook site will never be found. Websites, from a club point of view, are probably more useful for comparatively static information.

Tin; what is the Forum you refer to?
http://www.videoforums.co.uk/forum.php
In the "User Videos" section.

It's very low volume nowadays, and we'd welcome someone with your experience, Ned - or indeed anything else here.
