Dave, you have a fantastic mistress!
That being the case, I suggest you avoid any Belgian swimming pools!

Re: BIAFF 2019 at Birmingham

Links to many of the films plus interviews with many of the makers (thanks to Jan, Alan Colegrave/Alistair Biggar, Tom & Celia and maybe others) have now appeared on www.biaff.org.uk.
Willy will be interested that theres a lengthy interview with Werner & Francis.

Re: SERIAC Festival 2019

I should also add that the event was subsdised by the IAC and the ticket cost me a mere five pounds - which included 2 x tea/coffe and biscuit intervals plus a decent plated ploughmans and cakes made by Joy Prosser. Whilst I don't need to explain what £5 buys to anyone reading this I just thought I'...

SERIAC Festival 2019

I enjoyed another SERIAC Festival yesterday afternoon at the Oast Theatre in Tonbridge, Kent. Like This year's BIAFF this is a proper theatre with raked seating (SERIAC has been ahead of BIAFF in this respect of for many years!). Keith Sayers and his team are to be congratulated on excellent project...

Re: BluRay reader/writer.

Even stranger as a blank BD is 25GB or 50GB as a double layer. Good point Tom. Just thought I'd check my own system (Win 10 but same model Pioneer drive) If I put a blank, unformatted BD-R (write once) single layer into my system (Win 10) it shows as capacity 22.5GB, with 22.5GB free. If I put one ...

Re: BluRay reader/writer.

It seems possible. At this stage I'd take it up with Pioneer or your supplier.

Sorry for wasting your time, Tim
Absolutely not a waste of time, Peter. I missed out one of the possible causes (my fault for assuming you were running a more recent version of Windows)

Re: BluRay reader/writer.

Hi Peter. Yes, each of my suggestions could also correlate with your statement about DVDs. Apart from the fact that they use the similar technology to read and write, they are not the same. (For a start DVDs use red laser light and BluRays use blue) so it is quite feasible that a DVD will be recogni...

Re: BluRay reader/writer.

Peter, I have that very same BluRay re-writer (in fact it's the second one I've had - the other is in my "spare" PC. I've never had any issue reading Blurays from members of Staines or other clubs (I've never actually tried a commecrcial BluRay in it [EDIT: I have now and the PC reads it although I ...

Re: BIAFF 2019 at Birmingham

First can I echo what has been said already here about Tom`s excellent advice on catching the judges` eye and his insight into his judging methods. Perhaps you could send this on to be published in FVM? Already suggested. I did think that "Bite Off" was by far the best comedy and couldn`t understan...

Re: BIAFF 2019 at Birmingham

Some brilliant posts, Tom! I'd encourage you to submit the main one explaining the "human/practical" side of judging to FVM for a wider audience than those here (where you are, to some extent, preaching to the converted). My comments about THE SWIMMING POOL weren't intended as a defence, indeed I se...

Re: BIAFF 2019 at Birmingham

Jon, I'm sure Micahel will respond shortly (although if he doesn't, his films are here https://www.michaelslowefilms.com ) Before too long many of the films entered for BIAFF 2019 will join those of previous years on the official BIAFF website: www.biaff.org.uk and earlier years on the IAC website w...

Re: BIAFF 2019 at Birmingham

I know you were joshing Michael - hence the comment about it all being in good humour. And speaking of humour ... BEST COMEDY is a particularly subjective category (and I was rather expecting this decision to be one of the most contentious). I can't speak for the other judges but for me that means t...

Re: BIAFF 2019 at Birmingham

Despite not having entered a film this year, let alone having one screened, and having seen all the Sunday as well as plenty of the Saturday films before, I thoroughly enjoyed this BIAFF. The venue for Sunday was superb and I would be extremely disappointed if the IAC reverts to hotel function rooms...

Re: Hard disk drive failure

As a caveat to Alistair's post above: This only works if the NAS is set up with a RAID level that includes redundancy (eg RAID 1,5,6,10) and then only if a failed drive is replaced before a second drive fails. With RAID 0 or JBOD (just a bunch of disks) a failed drive means, in the case of JBOD, any...
