Re: We will remember them

Yesterday and the day before yesterday I watched the direct BBC-broadcast of the ceremonies in London to commemorate the thousands of young men that fell in the The Great War, but also in the Second World War, in Irak, Afghanistan etc... It was very moving. Very impressive. In particular the ceremon...

Re: 4K cameras

Yes, Colin. Next year the camera can be upgraded to 4K. In our national magazine for filmclubs I could read that buyng a 4K camera now is a bit too early because you also need a 4K beamer, a 4K TV-set, a powerful editing machine etc... Casablanca is too weak for 4K at the moment, but an upgrade will...

Re: 4K cameras

That "machine" would be too expensive, Michael. It is more than £6,500, I guess. But maybe the sony PXW-70? 2,700 euros. It can also shoot in HD. The day after tomorrow my heavy sony NX5 will be sold. The buyer is a member of a film club. Some of his clubmates also have such a sony NX5. Good for mul...

Re: 4K cameras

Many thanks for your advice, my friends. Yes, Colin. I bought my sony NX5 only three years ago, but you know what has happened to me in the mean time. It may happen to everybody. I am not going to repeat everything, but I suffer from rheumatoid arthritis. Walking is a very hard. My camera is very he...

Re: PAMELA RETIRES and IAC OFFICE MOVES

Sometimes we do not realize how important people are who work behind the scenes. I am sure that Pam must be one of them. When I wanted to be helped then Pam always replied very soon. Problems with my overseas IAC-membership for instance. Pam knows what I mean. I am grateful to her and I wish her all...

4K cameras

My dear friends. I have decided to sell my Sony NX5. I think it is too heavy and too sophisticated. Now I would like to buy a smaller one: a Panasonic AG-AC90A (2K), or a Sony HXR NX30E (2K) or a Sony PXW-x70 (4K). The first two cameras are cheaper. 1,800 euros. The Sony PXW-x70 costs about 2,600 eu...

Re: Where to from here?

Segue; some time ago we were asked to make suggestions about the future of the IAC and this produced a lengthy discussion; since when, silence. ned c Yes, you are right, Ned. Since then silence . I hope there will be a "new look" in a short time. We also had a pleasant discussion about the word "IA...

Re: We will remember them

The last few days I was in England. In Kent and in London. I met Ron Prosser at the "Star and Eagle", a cosy pub in Goudhurst in the Garden of England. He told me about BIAFF 2015 at Sittingbourne. The following day I saw my English friend and folksinger Brian Higbee at the "Dirty Habit" in Hollingb...

Re: We will remember them

I will send you a copy of my film if you wish. I will do this with pleasure. For this documentary I had the permission to follow your Queen when she was at Tyne Cot Cemetery in 2007. My brother carried my tripod. It was quite an adventure. I am sure that the IAC secretary will give me your address. ...

Re: We will remember them

Sorry, I forgot to tell you this: I also forgave the other judge. Maybe he was a Welshman. Maybe he is proud to be a Welshman. I understand him. You can't imagine how many Welsh young soldiers were killed in this "War of Madness" in Flanders' Fields. You must see it. We must also remember the Welsh!...

We will remember them

Yesterday. One hundred years ago. John Parr, son of a milkman, died near Mons (Belgium). He was the first British soldier who was killed in the Great War. He found his last resting place among many German soldiers. But George Ellison, member of the 5th Royal Irish Lancers, was also buried in this gr...

Re: Clubmate Douglas Boswell to Hollywood?

Yes, I feel very proud. I am quite sure that Douglas didn't use a camera. He was the director. Last Saturday an article about Douglas and his "Labyrinthus" appeared in our national newspaper "De Morgen". 3 pages ! The title: "The Flemish Spielberg". It also said that his grandfather was a British so...

Clubmate Douglas Boswell toHollywood?

About 10 years ago Douglas Boswell, a young man in his early twenties, appeared in my club "Focus Willebroek". He had noticed one of our posters in a pub saying "Learn to make films. Join our club!". A few months later he told me that he wanted to make a fiction film called "Foxtrot". He had already...

Re: SIT DOWN

Yes, you are right, Dave. You wrote this message on 28th June last year, but I was not able to read it. You know why. In my two clubs it is normal for a filmmaker to screen his unfinished work several times. There are clubmates who appreciate criticism. I am one of them. There are also friends who h...

Re: EDITING BY JUDGES ???

I think it is not a good idea to submit two or more similar entries. The Committee is right. Maybe some judges would not appreciate it. But you could do the following thing: you could show your film at your club first. Your clubmates tell you which version is the best for BIAFF. That's what a club i...
