Here Willy has touched on something which does not happen so much in Britain or the USA ... professional actors being willing to take part in amateur productions. It does happen now and then - Alan Colegrave's "Reasons" is a fine example, as is Alisan Beadie's "The Party". But for the most part we ...

Fourth step How do I make a film ? I told you : step 1 = research or reading books, brochures, etc... ; step 2 = writing a scenario; step 3 = looking for locations and actors; step 4 = script and story board Storyboard The script is very essential I think. [quote="stingman I have no problems in charging someone when I film an event for them. It is only pocket money anyway. Say £20.00. That would cover the event and editing and putting it on DVD. This I do for non-close friends. You lot on here would get it for free! So you know how I feel about you a...

Let's go off-topic, then! It was my topic and I don't mind. Back on the right track ... ! We know that you are a welknown judge, Dave. Being a filmmaker or not... That doesn't matter. I agree with everything. Being an amateur filmmaker has its advantages. You can do what you want, etc... Working un...

Willy and others have talked to me about some amateur film makers in countries which have a minority language. Those people make their movies as amateurs but seem to want to sell them to television. In order to meet the demand for programmes in the local language television buys them - and in tv ter...

Re: Are we really getting better?

I was so proud ! After having taken part in international film festivals for 10-12 years I am not so interested in the results anymore. I still remember the first bronze medal that I won in a local heat. I was so proud ! Personal preference To be honest ... I think that my last films are my best : ...

In the multiplexes here six or eight screens will be managed by one 17 year old "projectionist". We have hammered on the projection room door to get the sound levels adjusted, usually preset for the totally deaf. The floor is sticky with the debris of colas and popcorn, the audience take and make te...

Some time ago I told you that Freddy Declercq, a retired navy officer and curator of the Passchendaele Museum, asked me to film the visit of Queen Elisabeth to Tyne Cot Cemetery. Are we old geezers like Spielberg ?

Interview with Steven Spielberg in magazine. Strange, but I don't know what to do at the moment. The day after tomorrow I'm going to Guernsey and I don't want to switch on my casablanca anymore. Sometimes it's good to leave your rough film for a few weeks or even months. As soon as I have switched ...

If I were the cameraman, I suspect I would have been running to the toilets, Willy! What an awesome responsibility. Knowing you, though, my guess is that your main concern would be for the dignity of the occasion, so that nothing would detract from the remembrance of those young men who died in the...

When I was a member of a cine club in the UK (about 35 years ago) it was divided into four film production groups, Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta and a new member was assigned to a unit. So when I joined I found myself a member of Gamma Group. This formed the basis of intra club competition and each ...

Re: Post Subject

I see we are back to judges again. So I give up. It looks as if I am up against an old boy network of Competition winners, who have forgotton why most people go to the cinema. Oh, Roy, that's just what I wanted to tell you. We go to the cinema to enjoy films. We also attend competitions and f...

It would be very interesting to have entries judged by two panels, amateur film makers and a panel of informed film/TV viewers who have no interest in how films are made but a lot of interest in their values. I suspect that the results would be very different. Anyone up for it? Ned C The best footb...
