Re: vimeo

I'm one of the 'snobs' I'm ashamed to say! I much prefer Vimeo as a platform for proper films and mostly the audience are like minded. You Tube, I acknowledge, has a huge following and the content is far more diverse. The problem with You Tube though is that individual films are hard to locate. I ha...

Re: Semi Pro Festivals

Ned, thank you for your correction. Yes, I understand that you are either a professional or not. What I meant by 'semi pro' is to differentiate between the big money producer financed films and the lone or small group film makers who, whilst not currently making a living from their film making, inte...

Re: Semi Pro Festivals

John, your opinions about these festivals accord very much with mine, they are, I am convinced, very largely money making ventures. Nevertheless, if one is very selective in choosing which ones to enter, you can have some fun and at the same time learn a lot from seeing the other films. I generally ...

Re: BIAFF 2018 AT HARROGATE

Just watched The Pole Liner. Wonderful, such droll, understated humour is so rare in the amateur film world. Brilliant performance by the character, so convincing that you really start to wonder is this fact or fiction?

Semi Pro Festivals

I don't know how many of us enter our films these Semi Pro Festivals of which there are many, throughout the country. I just had one of my BIAFF films of this year selected to be shown in the London Independent Film Festival which was run from the Kine Cinema in Bermondsey, near Southwark and the Ta...

Re: BIAFF 2018 AT HARROGATE

Tim, thank you, that link helps greatly in shedding light on the whole matter. Rather typical of the Americans to think that we would automatically link the title of the film with the events depicted, in their minds they are the centre of the universe (sorry Ned if you read this!). However, the succ...

Re: BIAFF 2018 AT HARROGATE

Brilliant BIAFF, and all the points praised by Howard I agree with. As to the films, very mixed but generally pretty good I thought. The winner was not my choice, I would have had either the Romanian one, "CUIB" or "Annie Waits". My most enjoyable choice would be our two robbers, "Tim & Tom", delici...

Re: BIAFF 2018 RESULTS

John, you are right (you are after all part of the "Establishment" now). Everyone, lets make it before lunch on Saturday, after the last of the morning's shows. Can we just indicate that we have all seen the message? I'm in the chair, initially anyway!

Re: BIAFF 2018 RESULTS

Willy, I won't be in Tunbridge I'm afraid, if you ever come nearer London please let me know and I'll try and meet up. Forum readers, do we all agree that we can meet at the hotel bar in the hour prior to the Saturday evening dinner or, would you think that lunch time might be more convenient? Dave ...

Re: Non Commercial Promo

Tim, it's not playing on my MacBookPro. I click on the Flash and the screen with title frame comes up but it won't play, do I have to do anything else?

Re: BIAFF 2018 RESULTS

No Willy, no bad language (other than maybe 'film language'). Have a look at it on michaelslowefilms.com , the site containing most of my 50 years of film making. We shall miss you at BIAFF, next time you are in the UK send me an E Mail and we'll try and get together. I wish you well.

Re: Filming shows in 4K and cropping

I've never had to film a live show but have in the past recorded talks. Sometimes I was able to change camera positions which was quite possible by leaving the camera running, which meant that the radio mic on the subject was always capturing audio, and I avoided jump cutting by shooting shots of th...

Re: BIAFF 2018 RESULTS

I think that we will have to get serious about our 'bar meeting'. I think that the best time would be the hour before the reception prior to the Saturday night dinner. I'm not sure of the timing but presumably there would be time. We might have to cut short that soak in the bath. I'll post again nea...

Re: BIAFF 2018 RESULTS

I can tell you that the results go out in order of merit, that's why all the fives new before the fours. Well done to our 'regulars' with their Fives. I had two Four Stars for my two docs, which is what I expected, although, we are mostly bad judges of our own films and unreasonably expect better. I...
