Re: FVM October 2022 issue
Re the issue of the resolution of photographs for the magazine I do a lot of photography, and mostly shoot in RAW, but even if I'm shooting JPEG's I always have my camera set to the highest resolution so I can achieve the best quality. I suspect that many people shoot in lower resolutions so that th...

Re: BIAFF 2022
I've been very busy since returning from BIAFF and today is the first opportunity I've had to check out these posts which make very interesting reading. I thoroughly enjoyed this years BIAFF which I think was one of the best and it was great to be at the event in person. I thought the event was very...

Re: DVD and Blu-ray discs
I also agree with Howard. I've been a film collector since I bought my first cine projector and nowadays all my collecting is on DVD/Blu-ray of which I have several hundred, with movies ranging from the silent era to the present day. I also enjoy the extras on many discs, especially the special edit...

Re: THE BIAFF WEEKEND
The old Scottish International Amateur Film Festival and later the former Scottish 8 competition used to engage a professional from the film/TV industry for the final round judging. All entries were pre judged and categorised by a panel similar to how BIAFF is judged, with the best films going forwa...

Re: THE MOVIE MAKER TEN BEST COMPETITION
I attended a few of the Ten Best London screenings including 1976 and 1977 - it was always a great event. Bill Davison is still around. He turned up at the Northern Film Collectors Convention in Blackpool in November 2019.

Re: THE BIAFF WEEKEND
I thoroughly enjoyed the whole weekend including the AV show on Friday. On Friday & Saturday I watched on my TV but on Sunday I saw the films on my home cinema screen which was a much better experience. I thought the event was very well organised and must have taken a lot of work to arrange and ...

Re: BIAFF ONLINE ...
I thoroughly enjoyed the whole weekend and apart from a minor hiccup on the Friday night when my Wi Fi threw a wobbly and temporarily cut off my connection to Zoom it all went very well indeed. The picture quality on my home cinema screen was exceptional and once I'd got the audio feeding into the b...

Re: BIAFF ONLINE ...
I've registered and am looking forward to it. As I've mentioned on another post I'm going to hook up my lap top to my projector so I can view the films on my home cinema screen. At XDL films we were delighted to learn that our entry "Marvin" is being shown on the Saturday and we were invit...

Re: UNICA 2020
Unfortunately I missed the first 20 minutes of the presentation because I hadn't taken account of the one hour time difference, making it a 7pm start for the UK rather than 8pm. Luckily I realised my mistake early enough to see most of it and was then able to watch some of the films. I'm now looking...

Re: Anyone out there?
I'm still here! Re Michael's comments about being required to sign an indemnity for the screening of his films on TV I came up against the same issue a couple of years ago when I was approached by a TV production company who wanted to use material from an old film from the archive of my former club ...

Re: BIAFF 2020 RESULTS
I'm hoping to be at BIAFF in October but there is so much confusion and uncertainty at the moment that it's anyone's guess if it can go ahead. At the moment in Scotland we are not supposed to travel outside a 5 mile radius of our homes though this is advisory, rather than mandatory. However it effec...

Re: COVID-19
Fortunately we have the internet and ways of keeping in touch. At Motherwell Photographic Society we have cancelled our meetings but still had one print competition to run so what we decided to do was get the members to make digital images from the original files of the prints they would have entere...

Re: Are we ready for an "Upright Film Contest"?
There was a film in BIAFF 2018 that had been shot in the portrait format. From memory I think it was called "Girl" and was awarded 4 stars.

Re: BIAFF 2019 at Birmingham
At XDL Films our main entry for BIAFF, "Whodundidit", has been awarded 4 stars with which we are very pleased and we are also delighted that it is being shown on the Saturday. Our other film was a one minute story called "The Anniversary" that only received two stars, primarily d...
