Re: New laptops-no firewire- how to transfer HDV footage?

I was suggesting perhaps that with firewire becoming a legacy format, that someone may come up with an interface to USB3 or ESATA which both have the capability of appropriate transfer speed, however the market for such a product would be tiny and therefore uneconomical to produce.

Re: New laptops-no firewire- how to transfer HDV footage?

I'm guessing with the speed of the new USB3, and many new laptops being fitted with ESATA sockets, that somewhere there should a method. As I don't posess a desktop, using that to download is not an option. I think I'd probably risk a few quid to buy a lead to test on my current laptop before consid...

New laptops-no firewire- how to transfer HDV footage?

I've, successfully (for 4 years) edited on a PC laptop inputting HDV through a firewire. However I notice that few new laptops offer firewire. Furthermore, they also dont have PCMIA or Express card slots which would have allowed a firewire adapter to be inserted. I've been told by a Dell rep that I ...

Re: Marketing of SIV's

I'm with you that trying to make money doesn't always lead to quality film making.

Re: Marketing of SIV's

Having see work by Mr Abrahms, I recognise the quality of the film making. However going back to the comment at the top about 'archaic' rules, I'd just point out that there are many, many other outlets for films/videos which have been produced with the aim of generating revenue. However, I feel that...

Re: North v South, change needed

Two years ago the NW IAC refused to accept HD videos partly because they believed there was very limited uptake of this new format. Within a matter of months, after seeing how small and inexpensive cameras were and how easily HD projectors could be obtained, the decision was reversed. Last November,...

Re: North v South, change needed

While I agree that you 'can't make a silk purse out of sow's ear', and poor film doesn't get miraculously better in HD, I do feel it's about public performance. These films are being exhibited to a public audience and it's only reasonable that though the judging may not benefit from being in HD, any...

Re: North v South, change needed

There is little excuse to suggest that judging sessions can't put together a blue ray player and and HD TV or monitor. Players can be picked up for 80 quid. This wasn't the case two years ago so I fully understand the initial resistance but not any longer as, like everything associated with our hobb...

HDV editing

XP
Laptop duel core
Prem Elements 3
Output as m2t files on to hard drive
Elements can't output in HD format to tape however m2t files imported into Magix Edit Pro can output to tape.
In future when Blue-ray use expands, I'll output to Blue-ray.
