Re: Projectors & Pacemakers

Peter - surely yours will be replaced before mine - which is virtually brand new? (Unless you have rechargeables ?? :-) )
I suspect though that the process will be much the same as having it fitted - only less of it as the wires will stay in place I guess.

Re: Projectors & Pacemakers

I think they're probably 'covering their butts' with all the warnings, do's and don'ts. I had my first check up last week and they said they were going to 'slow it down and speed it up' as part of the check ... and I didn't notice a thing either way. So I wouldn't be able to tell if it was going wro...

Re: Projectors & Pacemakers

I recently had a Pacemaker fitted. I was warned never to go through an airport security 'arch' (tell them why), not to linger in the doorways of shops with security alarms, to hold a telephone to the ear furthest from the side to that where the pacemaker is fitted, and to keep all heavy electric or ...

Re: BIAFF - the Festival

From the numerous comments I heard Dave, I think it would be far more preferable to have (super)titles alongside the occasional eye line - and to be able to follow the film and its plot, than to sit through however many minutes the film lasts in complete ignorance and fidgeting frustration. That, su...

Re: BIAFF - the Festival

It would be virtually impossible to find a raked seat theatre that was a} Inexpensive enough and b) close enough to an equally excellent but inexpensive hotel here in the South, and so one has to cope as best as possible with the facilities available. The question about being able to see the subtitl...

Re: BIAFF - the Festival

There is free wifi here at the Coniston - the service and food are absolutely top notch, the films are up to usual high standards, the company fantastic - who has time to come on the internet? See you here, or, more likely by the time you read this - good to have seen you here!

Re: Festival Entry Fees

Convenient - and very reliable I think. A few years back, it seemed someone had 'hacked' my PayPal account and it looked like money was being withdrawn (or going to be withdrawn) to pay for some on-line gambling venture. I'm not a gambler (in that sense) and when I found out - I was at the Kent Film...

Re: Festival Entry Fees

Speaking from memory - I believe I paid by PayPal - and was charged an extra £2 for the privilege - which would probably be to cover the PayPal cost. But that is from memory - I could well be very wrong

Re: Music videos

I wouldn't know what category to correctly place that video - which incidentally I think is absolutely superb. In fact, trying to categorize it at all probably does it an injustice. It is a moment captured in time. It tells a story, beginning to end, without need for words ... and the music is - to ...

Re: BIAFF 2015 entries

Oh I agree (I did say 'I don't think so' to sour grapes) I had similar contradictory comments on my miserable two-star. Also, I saw it as a kind of shaggy dog story - slow build up to a twist ending. They saw it as a long drawn out joke. I reckon shorter would have lost the impact of the ending. The...

Re: BIAFF 2015 entries

John Roberts says Maybe some kind of 'check list' where judges indicate the number of films produced in various genres in the last 5 years might be useful? That might go some way to ensure any one judging panel doesn't end up with three judges whose combined output only covers one genre. Just a thou...

Re: BIAFF 2015 entries

Good to hear you have that magical 5-star Howard! As you say - judges do chew things over before coming to a conclusion. But that chew over time is pretty short, and sometimes they miss things which the maker intended. On the other hand - if they do miss something, perhaps the maker didn't make it r...

Re: BIAFF 2015 entries

Interesting! I also had the impression that the judge (who wrote the crit) for my 2 star was looking for a different type of film.

Same judge perhaps.

Re: BIAFF 2015 entries

I'm certainly at BIAFF, so whose turn for the whiskey this year Michael???? I think you were probably robbed: my two felt like robbery, particularly as it has done reasonably well at various other festivals. They may have been told to 'sharpen up' this year and cut down on the higher award le...
