Re: Colour Correction/Grading

I recently shot a short film using two cameras at right angles; an old Canon HD video camera and a video capable still camera (Lunix GX85). I set up the Canon manually and the GX85 on auto. There was no match between the two images in both color and exposure so it was impossible to intercut. Using t...

ABBERANT - discuss

Cathy; have given this discussion its own heading, Enjoyed the film; I grew up with the Goons so surrealistic madness appeals and nothing deserves sending up more than "serious" film analysis. For me the best characters are the academics; you could build a film around those two. I am sure I have see...

Where is everyone?

On the section "Sharing the movie experience" there is a vigorous sharing and discussion of our films and scripts supported by only three people. So where is everyone else? This a friendly exchange of views and a positive learning experience from which I have gained valuable insights about some of m...

Re: The Sister Wives

Thanks to both of you for your comments. First a quality explanation; the version on Vimeo is an .mp4 created from an .mpeg2 version ripped from a DVD. There are also three "looks" created for different segments of the film, the Motel interview warm to represent safety, events at the compound cool t...

The Sister Wives - discuss

https://vimeo.com/37972095 OK at the risk of being a pain another one. This film was made under the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) short film agreement as professional actors were involved who were paid so not eligible for BIAFF. Screened in a few other Festivals. Some background; although illegal, polyg...

Re: To Think Differently

Thanks Jameela; I successfully streamed your film. Technically well done; particularly as I suspect most of it is self shot/recorded. Good image quality and very good sound. For me the problem with the film is that you have intertwined two parts of your life journey that would be much more easily un...

Re: For discussion

Jameela; I tried to find the original BIAFF judge's report but cannot so this is from memory. There are clearly continuity problems and these were highlighted and the lighting levels in the garage. From what I recall the concentration was on the technology rather than the content. For your entertain...

Re: The Cloud - discuss?

I feel that an opening with the groundsmen and their problem with the fertiliser is strong enough to keep the viewers attention. It certainly requires a "wonder where this is going?" from the viewer. Regarding the "follow the accountant" scene the shot when they were in view of the house they should...

Re: The Cloud - discuss?

Thanks Tim. Let's get some things out of the way quickly; technically well done; good images, generally well framed, good sound. Very well cast; everyone looked the part and the quality of the acting good which in turn reflects on the quality of the direction. Smooth edit with good transitions. I en...

Re: For discussion

Hi Jameela; thanks for your comments. I take your point regarding the opening statement; this does set up the story and creates an expectation which is different from what follows. Between you and Tim I am grateful for your input which has revealed a number of points. I do agree with you that it is ...

Re: For discussion

Tim; thanks for your comments; an excellent explanation why we should have our films viewed by an audience before we lock them off. This was intended as an absurdist fantasy with black comedy undertones which to some degree we succeeded in getting across. The original script was an entry in the TSB ...

I am not a religious person but am fascinated by religions and how they get started. This film was authored by a local writer with whom I produced, it and then photographed and edited. It did very badly at BIAFF. What do you think?
