Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

After my rather generalized response to Jameela's article here are some specific thoughts about each of the points she addresses: Ground rules; in an age of increasing rudeness a requirement for for mutual respect is not out of place. On one of our local film making Facebook pages the opening statem...

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

Discussing the rules of the IAC overlooks two basic questions that must be answered before these details are addressed: 1. What is the role of the IAC in the present day world of film making where the divide between professional and amateur has virtually disappeared and now we are all “film makers”....

Clip identification

My Sony AX700 records clips with an identification starting with C and then in numerical sequence. I can find no way of changing the letter C to an alternative so all my clips regardless of the project share the same clip idents. Although kept in separate files on the hard drives when making a searc...

Re: BIAFF 2019 at Birmingham

Consideration should be given to on-line judging now that there is good streaming and with Film Freeway it is possible to both view entries and download them from the site. An example is our local festival DOCUTAH which has fifty screening teams drawn from the local population. We view the entries o...

Re: Wireless microphone system info

A possible solution, although not a radio system, is to have the talent have a Zoom H1n or similar recorder in a pocket with a Lavalier mic, this can be multiplied by as many recorders/mics you have. This overcomes any problems of interference although it does mean synching in post production. A sla...

Re: FVM MAGAZINE - FEBRUARY 2019

Dave; my attempts to find anything about Cathy were not very successful so perhaps you could point me in the right direction; thanks. Michael; unfortunately no visit to BIAFF this year; some health issues that hopefully will be resolved for a visit in the Fall. I have a meeting with the new "owners"...

Re: FVM MAGAZINE - FEBRUARY 2019

Dear Cathy; I assume your application to edit the magazine was turned down and I can't seem to find any of the articles you have submitted. Your obsession with the cover and the back cover are misplaced in my view; these are trivia compared with the significance of the survival/growth of the IAC and...

Re: Wobble Cam

Some thoughts: 1. The Mercedes ad tells a story which is easy to follow with a satisfactory resolution. 2. "The Old Guard" what still here? The reason the IAC is struggling to grow membership. 3. I loved jochicago's comment "the DP who allowed this should be fired". I am sure the style was agreed lo...

Re: Are we ready for an "Upright Film Contest"?

Ignore it at our peril. Yes; it looks awful but many people seem to be happy with the results. Have a section for"vertical images" in BIAFF and we will have a happy band of friends; probably young "shooters". Sweep them away and confirm that amateur film makers have minds closed to something differe...

Re: FVM MAGAZINE - FEBRUARY 2019

The production and distribution costs of the magazine according to the 2017 Financial Report are around GBP 30,000 of a gross income that year of 72,000. With a declining membership (noted in the report) is this a wise expenditure of 50% of the IAC income? (Admin costs were about 32K and a loss was ...

Re: FVM MAGAZINE - FEBRUARY 2019

As an occasional contributor to FVM i have some thoughts on the magazine and its future. First; editing/creating any purely voluntary publication is a thankless task and we must acknowledge the outstanding work Garth has done in regularly providing a readable publication. I suspect that there has no...

Re: Semi Pro Festivals

First; there is no such thing as a "semi-pro"; you are either paid for your work which makes you a professional or not in which case you are an amateur. What we need from FilmFreeway and Withoutabox is a definition of what percentage of films are screened. There are some truly outrageous results of ...
