The last time I used film it was 10x8 black and white. That does concentrate the mind on whether the photo is worth it or not!
Sadly I've never shot a film on film, as it were, and probably never will now.

Re: a quick question...
I usually burn DVDs and the occasional Blu-Ray, though our BD player will also eccept USB sticks.
I have done the occasional HD file for upload though.

Script writing (And re-writing, and re-re-writing, you get the idea!) Directing Cameraman Lighting, though this tends to be collaborative Editing I have a colleague who does the sound, in fact he's just worked up the sound-track to my first short. Unless I'm just doing a "Wish you were here&quo...

Re: Sound recorders
I use a little Marrantz pro recorder set to 24/48 for filming in dual mono mode, so one channel is about 12dB lower than the other. That way, if one channel overloads, the other is still usable. The clapper board is still the best way to go, as you can keep an easy log of shot and take. I *think* th...

Re: Can you recommend a DVD authoring program?
Not sure if it's still around, but my favorite has been DVDLab Pro. Not cheepo but not horrendous either and gives you full control over what goes where and does what. Faor a few dollers more you get Copy To DVD which is a very good burner. My only reason for moving away (To AvidDVD by Sonic) was to...

Re: IMAX: too big for its boots
If you think that was bad, check out BTS 4 from The Hobbit. Camera Lust! there's also an important desicion to be made when framing 3D, where in the "space" is the screen. ie how much of the action takes place beind the screen and how much in front? Too often 3D has been an excuse to have ...

Re: Blackmagic Camera
In case I have to repeat it again. the BMC is NOT a 4K camera, it's 2.4K so that down-converting to 1080p (Just under 2K) will give a clean image. From the footage I've seen it outclasses anything below Epic levels, even Scarlet might feel some heat. The next step beyond is realisticly ALexa territo...

Re: IMAX: too big for its boots
I think a lot of the hammering "The Hobbit" got was because people didn't fully take on board the the footage shown was unfinished.

Re: IMAX: too big for its boots
Given that "The Hobbit" is also being shown in 24fps 2D it would seem to offer a good chance for comparison, but not is only 3 cinemas will show the full monty.
Pity, as 48fps and 3D might paradoxicaly be "right"

3D's been resurected more times than Count Dracula.
Can someone please put a stake though it quicky.

Reminds me of my late father's comment on getting a pint that was below par.

Re: Blackmagic Camera
Well to expand. For the price of a BMC there's not much else even near it's quality. There are a few 1/3" or even smaller camcorders recording to various long-GOP codecs or DLSRs with even poorer codecs. Granted the Panny GH3 looks very good, but we're being ripped off over the price here and i...

Re: Blackmagic Camera
Hopefully the latitude will help avoid burned out skies, while 12 bit raw with DaVinci will give me the scope for creative grading.
Also I think I'll get better keys than with a lousy DSLR, though not as good as a true 4:4:4 cam like an Alexa or Epic, neither of which I can afford.
