If you're using firewire - which you should - then check device manager to check if your firewire is reporting no trouble.
If it has a yellow error flag, delete the device and restart the computer. It should find it and install the drivers for it.

Re: New at NAB
You will also save in that you do not need to upgrade to Win 7 64 bit as it runs on XP and Win7 32 bit and an even more plus point is that it does not need the bells and whistles of a monster PC like Premiere just a fast processor. Apps like Premiere really seem to benefit from computers with loads...

Re: LED Video light
Yes, the £25 ebay seller hasn't got any presently. I found that mixing indoor lights (low energy jobs) with the LED isn't that straightforward. I manually white balanced the ceiling then used as little LED power as I could get away with - with the orange gel. I didn't try the red gel. I'm not sure i...

Re: PC's - keeping it stable and up to date.
I use my editing PC for everything. I use automatic updates for Windows 7. I try not to have too much software installed, and certainly not stuff that I really don't need, which helps with making sure the hard disks don't get too full. I doubt if I'd suggest people open their computer and look insid...

Re: LED Video light
The tricky part of using this LED light is the colour balancing, what looks white to your eyes, looks more blue to the cam - though it comes with a couple of gels - the orange one seems to help for lighting indoors.

I think the biggest threat to the average punter who uses the internet is the threat from sites that look like your bank etc asking you to confirm your payment details ... But for all of us, if you key the details into online computers of your bank card numbers or paypal login details, you're taking...

Re: A guide to a PC's specifcation
I've been asked to plan an editing rig for HDV and Adobe CS4. I'm thinking of going for a value Intel I5/I7 quad core rig, with Asus mobo, 8gb of Corsair ram and three 7200rpm hard drives. An Nvidia graphics GTX card, LG blu-ray writer with Win 7 64bit should complete the rig. I edit AVCHD and don't...

I find those Aone BD disks fine. Not one coaster yet.
Yikes I need to order some!

Re: Blu-ray blanks
The only app I know that play blu-ray disks on a PC is PowerDVD 11 Ultra. It does play genuine blu-ray disks that are in the BD writer. It doesn't play ordinary 4.7gb DVD's that have a blu-ray image burned onto them, whereas many stand alone blu-ray players play these cheap 'BD' disks fine. Maybe Cy...

LED Video light
I've just been looking at the CN160 video light, which is a 160 dimmable LED light, max 9watt power. It looks a cracking bit of progress and sell for under £40, though on ebay for as little as £25 new. Thought it's worth sharing. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170742361721?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_t...

Re: H2 ZOOM DIGITAL RECORDER
I did a bunch of test a couple weeks ago, altering the mic gain - low-med-high - and used a sennheiser ME64 compared to the onboard frontal mics. The results as I listened to sound quality, was that the ME64 sounded far better than the onboard mics and that low or medium mic gain produced better sou...

Re: A tripod upgrade
I used a TH650 when I had my XM-1 and found it quite good, but quite weedy for a bigger camera. The head of the 950 is indeed very smooth, but I guess that the unit just doesn't have the physical rigidity to solidly support a maxed zoomed Z5 with kit. The two options of the LS38 have the centre stru...
