Re: Burlesque

Burlesque is a film by the "Dorset Originals" for the IAC Summer Film Making Challenge. Not bad at all John. Love the silent film type style for the "act". Even though it's colour it works well. You kept the tempo up too and Helen (?) really excelled (she looked so natural in th...

Re: Is electronic communication a young persons thing?

(Re music festivals) If they gather together for that social experience, why do they choose not to do so for films? A thought: The difference between watching musicians live and watching a screening of a film is that the film is always the same. Even when watching bands performing to click track wi...

I didn't disagree with Howard! - far from it. If you enter a film it deserves to be looked at (whether or not you've paid entry)

I was just agreeing with Albert about not feeling the need to be present every time my film is viewed.

Re: The weird world of Film Festivals

Regarding if one needs to be present when your film is shown..... ... I get thousands of hits each year on my website showing these works and have never been present when someone takes a look. But I am well satisfied. I was going to say the same thing Albert. I occasionally get comments on a couple...

Sometimes we get too obsessed with competitions,
Totally agree. And the near perfection that can be obtained given infinite time doesn't necessarily sway the judges. The two films I've completed for these challenges have received good results at BIAFF.

Re: BIAFF 2024 - yes or no?

But if all depends on the taste of the judges then it is better not to take part in a competition. I have to disagree here, Willy. If it all depends on the taste of the judges, then it is the judges who are at fault, not the entrant. Albert's appraisal of yoru film was a perfect example of how a fi...

Re: Too much drone footage?

I'm sure you're right, Dave, that very often drone shots are included simply to add variety or simply because the film maker can. Neither of these in themselves are bad things but I don't think it's right to point the finger at drone shots. Many types of shots become fasionable - usually because tec...

Re: BIAFF 2024 - yes or no?

Yes, why not bring back Blue, Silver, Gold, and still retain the Diamonds and all the Special Awards. Because, in no time at all, there will be people who begin to see "Silver" as "just" a silver. And there will be a lot of people whose films currently receive three stars that w...

Re: BIAFF 2024 - yes or no?

A BIAFF judge recently told me that they must judge a film on a first viewing only. Indeed. The star rating has to be awarded based on a seven minute discussion. There is some logic to this - most people will decide how "good" they think a film is whilst watching it. However, it also expl...

Re: BIAFF 2024 - yes or no?

the others, as I recall, just didn't like it. AT ALL. I hope they didn't mark it down just because they didn't like it. Whether we like a film or not shouldn't have anything to do with it (though I imagine we are all influenced by our likes and dislikes). Comedy has the biggest problem here. If you...

Re: Where next for the IAC?

Looking at Geoff's point from another angle, in the past two or three years, IAC members have been given free entry, as have club films, before a certain date, so to a certain extent membership gives you free write-ups whereas non-members have to pay. The potential downside to this free submission -...
